I first started reading SHOOT working in the mail room as a summer intern, 1968, at Clinton E. Frank Ad Agency, Chicago. Joined full-time at Frank two years later, just out of college..... worked my way up to projectionist, and decided TV commercial production was my career path.  Never regretted the decision, and all the wonderful people I worked with for the next 35 years.  (We had our share of turkeys, too.)
