Vigorsol Ice Gum's "Captain Ice"
Duration: 30 seconds
MPC, London, was the VFX house on this spot which opens on a city under siege from an enormous fire-breathing monster. Not to fear, though, because Captain Ice--who gets his superhero power from Vigorsol Ice Gum--comes to the rescue.
Top Spot of the Week: Wheat Thins' "Puppet"
Duration: 30 seconds
Ulf Johansson of Smith and Jones Films directed this offbeat spot which introduces us to John, a puppet, who is facing the moment every puppet dreads--being told that he can't eat Wheat Thins. The bringers of bad news are two doctors who try to explain to John that he needs to no longer think about Wheat Thins.
Top Spot of the Week: Peeps' "Brothers"
Duration: 30 seconds
The Hoffman Brothers--Mark and Matt--of Harvest fittingly directed this commercial about two brothers in which the older sibling regales his young bro with the many ways folks enjoy Peeps candy treats, a fun, time-honored staple of Easter. The older brother is a fountain of information when it comes to ways to use Peeps--in fact, he's a bit too loquacious. Advertising agency is The Terri & Sandy Solution, New York.
Miracle Whip's "Keep An Open Mouth"
Duration: 2 minutes
Beacon Street Studios turned out the musical score for this music video, with lyrics by writer Dave Reger of mcgarrybowen, Chicago. The clip has a tongue-in-cheek vibe reminiscent of "We Are The World" except with a less lofty ambition--to get people to open their minds and then their mouths to creamy Miracle Whip mayonnaise substitute.
New Web Video: Spam's "Madness of March"
Duration: 17 seconds
Portland, Ore.-based animation studio LAIKA/house brings back the diminutive animated knight, Sir Can-A-Lot, for this web video, one in a series offering tips and recipes to help those suffering from routine meals and boring tweets. Video is part of the "Break the Monotony of March" campaign, dovetailing with NCAA college basketball's March Madness tournament. Advertising agency is BBDO Proximity, Minneapolis.
M&M's "Love Ballad"
Duration: 30 seconds
LAIKA/house was the animation house on this spot in which a blind date is foisted on an unsuspecting M&M character. His companion is a chocaholic whose love for Mr. M&M is superficial and hedonistic.
Linda McCartney Foods' "Love Linda"
Duration: 40 seconds
Passion Pictures and Strange Beast teamed on this spot which introduces us to a line of meat-free foods inspired by Linda McCartney who loved life, music and food. The animation transports us to a fairy-tale world where characters including Linda herself--along with a horse boy and ballerina cat, among others---cavort and enjoy each other's company in what becomes a meat-free woodland festival.
Top Spot of the Week: Snickers' "Horseless Headsman"
Duration: 45 seconds
Craig Gillespie of MJZ directed this commercial in which a headless horseman instead appears as a horseless headsman. So what has caused this backwards character? Clearly he's not himself because he's hungry. He eats a Snickers bar and becomes his old scary self on Halloween. Advertising agency is BBDO New York.
Top Spot of the Week: iD Gum's "Bald Eagle"
Duration: 45 seconds
Tom Kuntz of MJZ directed this offbeat comedy commercial which centers on a man who's meticulously making something in his rural cabin but we're not sure what. He then steps out of the cabin and hikes up into the wilderness and carefully places his creation--which is revealed to be a wig--on a bald eagle. Advertising agency is Droga5, New York.
Ragu's "Parents' Bedroom"
Duration: 30 seconds
Steve Miller of @radical.media directed this offbeat spot comedically depicting a traumatic childhood episode, which thankfully can be remedied by some delicious Ragu pasta sauce. Promoting this panacea is a song from Butter Music+Sound.
