Celebrating the 65th anniversary of "Gentleman's Agreement" with NYC screening; Event to Feature Special Guest Celeste Holm

Beverly Hills, CA, April 04, 2012 | SHOOT Publicity Wire | --- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as part of its "Monday Nights with Oscar®," series will celebrate the 65th anniversary of "Gentleman's Agreement" with a screening on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in New York City. The event will feature special guest Celeste Holm, who earned an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in her first dramatic screen role.

"Gentleman's Agreement" (1947) is the story of a journalist who adopts a Jewish identity to expose anti-Semitism in post-World War II America. The film, which was both a critical and commercial success, earned eight Academy Award® nominations and won three Oscars®, including Best Director for Elia Kazan and Best Picture.

20th Century-Fox executive Darryl F. Zanuck personally produced the film and hired famed playwright Moss Hart to adapt Laura Z. Hobson's controversial novel. Gregory Peck stars as the crusading journalist and Dean Stockwell plays his young son, who is also affected by prejudice.

The Academy will present a 35mm print from the Academy Film Archive, courtesy of 20th Century Fox.

Tickets for "Gentleman's Agreement" are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased online at www.oscars.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office prior to the event (subject to availability).
