AFI Introduces Eight Promising New Women Directors With Celebrated Screening Monday May 6 At The DGA
May 02, 2013 -- The American Film Institute's elite AFI Directing Workshop for Women (DWW) program will screen eight short films at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Director's Guild in Los Angeles. The films are the end result of an immersive year long tuition-free fellowship conducted each year at AFI. On average, only eight percent of applicants are selected to participate in this prestigious program. The program's emphasis is on women, who have had at least seven years experience within the film industry and are transitioning into the role of director. The eight new directors are Shaz Bennett, Catherine Dent, Antoneta Kastrati, Lauren Ludwig, Stephanie Martin, Juliana Peñaranda-Loftus, Lisanne Sartor and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro.

May 01, 2013 -- The Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and the American Cinematheque are co-hosting the annual 2013 Screening Series "Celebrating Extraordinary Production Design," monthly screenings highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations. The series will run from May through August, and the screenings will alternate between the AC's Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood) and the Max Palevsky Theatre at the Aero (1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica) with all screenings starting at 5:30 pm.

March 28, 2013 -- The Martha's Vineyard Film Society is pleased to announce that philanthropist Marilyn Meyerhoff has made a major donation to the Martha's Vineyard Film Center, and that its newly constructed theatre space will be named in her honor. The new film center includes a 177-seat, state-of-the-art theatre space, which features a 26-foot screen, stadium seating, and DCI projection; it is this theatre space that will be named after Marilyn Meyerhoff. The MV Film Society, founded in 2002, opened its film center in September 2012 after a whirlwind eight-month fundraising effort. It is open year-round, making it one of the few cultural arts venues available in the off-season to the Island's permanent residents.
