    LOS ANGELES (AP) --

Steve McQueen's historic saga "12 Years a Slave," Jon Wells' dysfunctional family adaptation "August: Osage County," Jean-Marc Vallee's AIDS drama "Dallas Buyers Club" and the sweeping White House servant tale "Lee Daniels' The Butler" topped the list of outstanding performances for the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. "12 Years a Slave" scored four nominations, while "Osage County," Dallas Buyers Club" and "The Butler" earned three nominations each in Wednesday's announcements.

Each of the films was nominated for overall performance by their casts. Also nominated for best ensemble cast was David O. Russell's 1970s con-artist romp "American Hustle."

"12 Years a Slave" attained individual acting nominations, as well, including male lead for Chiwetel Ejiofor as a displaced free black man, Michael Fassbender for supporting actor as a ruthless slave owner and Lupita Nyong'o for female supporting as a favored fieldworker.

"August: Osage County" had individual nominations for Meryl Streep for female lead as the conflicted matriarch in the adaptation of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play, and Julia Roberts as the domineering daughter for supporting female actor.

"Dallas Buyers Club" also scored nominations for Matthew McConaughey as the HIV-positive rodeo-lover in the best actor category and Jared Leto as a transgender for supporting actor.

Forest Whitaker received the lead actor nomination for his performance as a long-time White House butler in "Lee Daniels' The Butler." Oprah Winfrey earned a supporting nod.

Also bringing in a lead actor nominations were Bruce Dern for his performance of an aging dreamer in Alexander Payne's small town dark comedy "Nebraska" and Tom Hanks, who plays the title role in the Paul Greengrass Somali pirate story.

Additional best-actress nominees included Cate Blanchett as a fallen socialite in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine," Sandra Bullock as a brave astronaut in Alfonso Curaon's lost-in-space odyssey "Gravity," Judi Dench as a woman in search of her son in "Philomena" and Emma Thompson as author P.L. Travers in the Disney comedy "Saving Mr. Banks."

The SAG Awards will be presented Jan. 18. The guild nominations are one of Hollywood's first major announcements on the long road to the March 2 Academy Awards.

Women Propel “Wuthering Heights” To Box Office-Topping Debut At $34.8 Million

    Sunday, February 15, 2026

Emerald Fennell's bold reimagining of "Wuthering Heights" brought crowds of women to movie theaters this weekend. The Warner Bros. release topped the box office charts and nabbed the title for the year's biggest opening with $34.8 million in ticket sales in its first three days in North American theaters, according to studio estimates Sunday. According to PostTrak polling, an estimated 76% of those ticket buyers were women. By the end of Monday's Presidents Day holiday, the total could rise to $40 million from its 3,682 locations.

The romantic drama starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as the star-crossed Catherine and Heathcliff, won out over the weekend's other newcomers, including the animated "GOAT" and the heist thriller "Crime 101." Its biggest day was Saturday's Valentine's Day holiday, where it earned $14 million. "Wuthering Heights" is also performing even better internationally, where it's expecting to rake in an additional $42 million from 76 territories.

The Warner Bros./MRC production cost a reported $80 million to produce, not accounting for the millions spent on marketing and promotion. If the four-day totals match the estimates, that makes for a strong $82 million global debut. And the film still has several big openings on the horizon, in Japan and Vietnam on Feb. 27, and in China on March 13.

The success comes while the future of Warner Bros. hangs in the balance, as Paramount continues to sweeten its hostile takeover bid in hopes of winning out over Netflix. "Wuthering Heights" is the studio's ninth No. 1 opening in a row.

Fennell's version of "Wuthering Heights," which takes many liberties with Emily Brontë's novel, largely divided critics. It's currently sitting at a mixed 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. While that... Read More
