    NEW YORK --

The Gotham Film & Media Institute has unveiled the nominations in 12 competitive award categories for the 2025 Gotham Television Awards, recognizing a range of series, including Adolescence, The Pitt and The Studio as well as performances from Kathy Bates, Sterling K. Brown, Ted Danson, Linda Lavin, Cristin Milioti, and Michelle Williams, among others. Adolescence topped the Gotham tally with four nominations–for Breakthrough Limited Series, Lead Performance in a Limited Series (Stephen Graham), and Supporting Performance in a Limited Series (for Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty).

“Building on the success of last year’s inaugural ceremony, the Gotham Television Awards returns with new categories, expanded tributes, and a larger stage to celebrate the creators and artists making their mark on today’s television landscape,” said Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of The Gotham. “As the first awards show of the new television season, we are proud to bring together the industry’s most exciting new voices, celebrate breakthrough achievements, and deepen our commitment to supporting the creative community.”

The Breakthrough Comedy, Drama, Limited, and Nonfiction Series Awards recognize exceptionally crafted work that pushes the boundaries of creativity in their respective categories. Outstanding Performance Awards will honor outstanding lead and supporting performances in the three Breakthrough fiction series categories (Comedy, Drama, and Limited Series). Additionally, the inaugural category of Outstanding Original Film, Broadcast or Streaming will honor original features aired or transmitted for the first time during the eligibility period on television (network, basic cable, pay cable, pay television, pay-per-view, interactive cable, broadband) or digital distribution through internet streaming platforms. This will also be the first year The Gotham will honor an outstanding lead or supporting performance in an Original Film.

Nominees were selected by committees of film and television critics, journalists, festival programmers, and film curators. Separate juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors, and others directly involved in making television will determine the final Gotham Television Awards recipients.

At the inaugural 2024 Gotham Television Awards winners included Baby Reindeer, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Colin from Accounts, and Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show. The 2024 ceremony also bestowed tributes on Mariska Hargitay, Peter Morgan, and Lulu Wang. The Gotham 2025 Television Awards Ceremony will be held at 7pm on Monday, June 2, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. In addition to announcing the winners, tributes will be given to Amy Sherman Palladino, Daniel Palladino, Hwang Dong-hyuk, as well as others that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Richard Linklater Unveils “Nouvelle Vague,” His Ode To The French New Wave, At Cannes Film Fest

    Sunday, May 18, 2025

When Richard Linklater first started thinking about making a film about the French New Wave, he figured he'd show it all everywhere except one place.

"I thought: They'll hate that an American director did this," Linklater said Sunday. "We'll show this film all over the world, but never in France."

But Linklater nevertheless unveiled "Nouvelle Vague" on Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival, bringing film about the making of Jean-Luc Godard's "Breathless" to the very heart of the French film industry. It was, Linklater granted, an audacious thing to do.

And "Nouvelle Vague" went down as one of the biggest successes of the festival. At a Cannes that's been largely characterized by darker, more portentous dramas, "Nouvelle Vague" was cheered as an enchanting ode to moviemaking.

"Nouvelle Vague" is an uncanny kind of recreation. In black-and-white and in the style of the French New Wave, it chronicles the making of one of the most celebrated French films of all time. With sunglasses that never come off his face, Guillaume Marbeck plays 29-year-old Godard as he's making his first feature, trying to launch himself as a film director and upend filmmaking convention.

Linklater's movie, which is for sale at Cannes and competing for the Palme d'Or, is in French. It not only goes day-by-day through the making of "Breathless," it endeavors to capture the entire movement of one of the most fabled eras of moviemaking. Truffaut, Varda, Chabrol, Melville, Rohmer, Rossellini and Rivette are just some of the famous filmmakers who drift in and out of the movie.

Linklater told reporters Sunday that he wanted audiences to feel "like they were hanging out with Nouvelle Vague in 1959."

"It was an old idea of some colleagues of mine," said... Read More
