    LONDON --

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has opened for awards submissions for its 72nd edition, alongside announcing the names of the global experts confirmed to lead the 2025 juries. Convening in Cannes in June, the jury presidents will help benchmark excellence across the world’s very best creative and effective work. This year’s jury presidents include Ali Ali, co-founder and film director, Good People Films, representing Egypt on the lineup for the first time, as the Film Craft Lions Jury President.

Cannes Lions has announced significant updates for 2025, including the renaming of the Social & Influencer Lions to the Social & Creator Lions, to acknowledge the growing role of creators in the marketing landscape. Beth Keamy, chief digital officer at TBWAMedia Arts Lab, Global, will serve as jury president for the Social & Creator Lions, bringing her expertise in digital innovation to lead the Jury in recognizing groundbreaking creative work.

In its 10th anniversary year, Glass: The Lion for Change is being redefined to reflect a more expansive vision for social equity. In 2025, the award’s scope will broaden beyond gender to celebrate creative excellence that promotes more equitable representation across a wider range of communities–from disability and race to sexuality and social inequity. Entrants will be asked to identify the specific community their work represents, outline the problem it seeks to address and demonstrate its meaningful and long-lasting impact. KR Liu, global head of disability innovation, Google, will play a vital role as jury president in championing these transformative creative solutions.

Commenting on the jury presidents, Simon Cook, CEO, Lions, said, “We are excited to welcome a diverse and forward-thinking group of leaders who understand the transformative power of creative excellence to drive business growth and impact. All experts in their field, their incredible talent, combined with the commitment and leadership they bring to their roles, ensures the highest levels of integrity and rigor in the judging process. We thank them for all that they will bring to the important task ahead of them in June.”

Duane “Keffe D” Davis’ Murder Trial Heads To Closing In Tupac Shakur’s 1996 Killing

    Friday, August 28, 2026

The murder trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur is headed to closing arguments after the defense rested Thursday following testimony from three former Las Vegas police officers.

Jurors are scheduled to return Monday for closing arguments before beginning deliberations in the only prosecution brought in the killing of the hip-hop icon. The presentation of evidence ended after nine days of testimony.

Davis, 63, did not take the stand.

Shakur was riding in a BMW on Sept. 7, 1996, when a white Cadillac pulled up next to it at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip and gunfire erupted. Shakur was shot multiple times and died six days later. The driver of the BMW, Marion "Suge" Knight, survived.

Years later, Davis would say he procured the gun and his nephew, who has since died, fired the shots. Prosecutors say Davis orchestrated the killing, and he faces life in prison if convicted of murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. He has pleaded not guilty.

Defense attorney Michael Sanft has argued that Davis fabricated or embellished his accounts of the killing for money and notoriety and that investigators failed to independently corroborate his claims.

Retired Las Vegas homicide detective Dan Long, the defense's final witness, testified that he tried unsuccessfully to verify several details Davis provided during a 2009 police interview.

Davis told Long that his nephew, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, had gone to a Las Vegas hospital after being beaten by Shakur and others in a casino brawl hours before the rapper was fatally shot. Long said he was unable to find hospital records confirming Anderson was treated there.

    Long also tried... Read More
