    Christopher Nolan Elected DGA President

    LOS ANGELES --

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has announced that director Christopher Nolan was elected president during its Biennial National Convention by acclimation. 167 delegates who represented more than 19,500 Guild members in the election also chose a new slate of officers and members of the National Board of Directors.

β€œTo be elected president of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career,” said Nolan. β€œOur industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild’s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank president Glatter for her leadership over the past four years. I look forward to collaborating with her and the newly elected Board to achieve important creative and economic protections for our members.”

Nolan has served as a member of the DGA’s National Board and Western Directors Council since 2015. He is chair of the Guild’s Theatrical Creative Rights Committee and its Artificial Intelligence Committee. He has been a DGA member since 2001.

Nolan has crafted landmark films. In 2024, he won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for Oppenheimer. He was previously nominated for Dunkirk (2017), Inception (2010), The Dark Knight (2008), and Memento (2001).

Renowned for his craftsmanship, Nolan is celebrated for his use of practical shooting and nonlinear storytelling, and for championing the theatrical experience. His films often explore complex themes through character development, time, identity, and morality, pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling while remaining deeply accessible to global audiences. With his rare ability to achieve critical acclaim and commercial success, his films have grossed billions worldwide.

The following officers were elected to serve alongside Nolan: Laura Belsey was re-elected national vice president and Paris Barclay was re-elected secretary-treasurer.

Also elected were first vice-president Todd Holland; second vice-president Ron Howard; third vice-president Gina Prince-Bythewood; fourth vice-president Seith Mann; fifth vice-president Millicent Shelton; sixth vice-president Lily Olszewski; and assistant secretary-treasurer Joyce Thomas.

In Legal Dispute Over “The View,” ABC Accuses Trump Administration Of Trying To Chill Free Speech

    Friday, May 8, 2026

In a strongly worded filing, ABC accuses the Trump administration of trying to chill its constitutionally protected free speech and hinder open political discussion.

The point of contention: The popular show "The View," and whether it's subject to equal time rules.

ABC's filing to the Federal Communications Commission, made public Friday, came in a dispute involving one ABC station in Houston, KTRK-TV. But the wording indicated the network was embarking on a broader battle with the administration.

"The Commission's actions threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech, both with respect to 'The View' and more broadly," said the filing on behalf of both KTRK-TV and ABC.

The commission replied, in a statement emailed to The Associated Press, that equal time law "encourages more speech and empowers voters to decide the outcome of elections. The FCC will review Disney's assertion that 'The View' is a 'bona fide news program' and thus exempt from the political equal time rules."

The ABC filing appeared to be the latest volley inside and outside the legal arena between the U.S. media and the Trump White House over what journalists perceive as the president's attack on free speech and the media's ability to do its job. Trump has been critical of media outlets whose journalism runs counter to his agenda and sensibilities.

Among legal battles in the courts: a dispute between the Pentagon and The New York Times over access; a battle between the White House and The Associated Press over how to refer to the Gulf of Mexico; and Trump's anger at The Wall Street Journal over reporting about Jeffrey Epstein.

The dispute concerns content on "The View," ABC's long-running morning talk show,... Read More
