    LOS ANGELES --

With the Emmy Awards presentations slated for next month, the industry is gearing up for a first–two separate Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies the weekend prior to the Emmy Awards telecast.

The new two-show format at L.A. LIVE’s Microsoft Theater will include presentations of above- and below-the-line awards, as previously presented in a single evening event. These back-to-back ceremonies–on Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11–will honor a wide range of contributors including art directors, costume designers, cinematographers, sound editors and will include both non-traditional short form content as well as traditional content.

Earlier this year, the Television Academy’s Board of Governors voted to expand its Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony to two consecutive nights in response to how the TV landscape continues to grow and evolve as the Academy’s 20,000-plus professional members increasingly create and produce content for new and emerging global platforms. Two Creative Arts Emmy shows have become necessary to properly accommodate the growing number of categories.

The 2016 Creative Arts weekend shows will be produced by Bob Bain who also produced the 2015 show.

“One of our primary missions as an Academy is to recognize creative excellence, both in front of and behind the cameras,” said Bruce Rosenblum, chairman and CEO of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “Our Academy has a legacy of adjusting and expanding our awards to reflect the changing nature of our members’ Emmy-worthy work. The industry is growing, and we now have more than enough wonderful creativity to enjoy a second Creative Arts show where we can celebrate the excellence and achievement of this year’s work.”

To avoid audience-attendance overlap, the two shows will be split into two broad category groups. Additionally, identical Creative Arts Ball celebrations will be held on each night.

Here’s a breakdown of the Creative Arts Emmy categories that will be awarded on Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11:

SHOOT’s 65th Anniversary Reflections: AICP President and CEO Matt Miller

    Friday, July 11, 2025

As SHOOT celebrates a milestone, its 65th year of publication, we begin a series of interviews and features that will run throughout the summer on SHOOTonline and in SHOOT's newsletters and special PDF Issue with digital distribution in which industry executives, creatives and artists reflect on the changes they’ve seen over the decades, as well as essential dynamics that have endured. These folks--from different sectors of the business--will also share their visions and aspirations for the future. Perhaps most importantly, this special SHOOT coverage enables us to look back on the industry’s history, learn from it, and plum relevant lessons that will help us now and beyond. Mark Twain once famously said, “History doesn’t repeat itself but it often rhymes.” Twain’s insight underscores the importance of the past and its role in helping us better shape today and tomorrow. Such perspectives are invaluable yet sadly often not properly considered as society’s tendency at times is to overlook history and its significance. Additionally, the new generation navigating our industry sometimes isn’t aware of the relevant history, having not experienced it firsthand. Hopefully helping to close those gaps will be SHOOT’s 65th Anniversary coverage which seeks to provide historical context and to benefit from its relevance to the present and what may lie ahead. To kick off its 65th Anniversary-inspired content, SHOOT connected with Matt Miller, president and CEO of AICP, to gain context on where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going. SHOOT reaching out to Miller is most appropriate given our reportage over the years on all major AICP developments from the start of the association,... Read More
