    LOS ANGELES --

This year’s field of nominees for the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award recognizing Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials consists of a filmmaker who’s won the honor each of the last two years, another past winner, a five-time nominee, a helmer who’s just picked up his second career nod, and a duo garnering their very first Guild nomination.

The latter is the directorial team of Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim of production house PRETTYBIRD.

The director now going for her third consecutive DGA Award win is Kim Gehrig of Somesuch.

The other past winner is Andreas Nilsson of Biscuit Filmworks. Nilsson won the honor in 2016 and now has three career nominations.

Lance Acord of Park Pictures just earned his fifth career DGA Award nomination in the commercials category–his four prior nods coming in 2004, 2012, 2013 and 2017.

And scoring his second career DGA nod is Ivan Zacharias of SMUGGLER who was previously nominated in 2023.

    The work
Gehrig earned her third straight nomination on the strength of three entries: SiriusXM’s “A Life in Sound” for agency Uncommon; Nike’s “Am I A Bad Person?” for Wieden+Kennedy, and the Apple client-direct spot titled “Find Your Friends.”

Nilsson’s latest nomination came for Hennessy’s “Board Game” out of Wieden+Kennedy London; Andrex’s “First Office Poo” for FCB London; the client-direct Apple spot “One More”; and Virgin Media’s “Whizzer” for VCCP London.

Acord’s fifth career nod is for Volkswagen’s “An American Love Story” out of agency Johannes Leonardo.

Zacharias’ second career nomination is for Apple’s “Flock” out of TBWAMedia Arts Lab.

And the duo of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim nabbed their first nomination for CeraVe’s “Michael CeraVe” from WPP Onefluence (Ogilvy).

The winner will be announced at the 77th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 8, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Robert Duvall, “Godfather” Mainstay and Oscar-Winning Actor For “Tender Mercies,” Dies At 95

    Monday, February 16, 2026

Robert Duvall, the Oscar-winning actor of matchless versatility and dedication whose classic roles included the intrepid consigliere of the first two "Godfather" movies and the over-the-hill country music singer in "Tender Mercies," has died at age 95. Duvall died "peacefully" at his home Sunday in Middleburg, Virginia, according to an announcement from his publicist and from a statement posted on his Facebook page by his wife, Luciana Duvall. "To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything," Luciana Duvall wrote. "His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented." The bald, wiry Duvall didn't have leading man looks, but few "character actors" enjoyed such a long, rewarding and unpredictable career, in leading and supporting roles, from an itinerant preacher to Josef Stalin. Beginning with his 1962 film debut as Boo Radley, the reclusive neighbor in "To Kill a Mockingbird," Duvall created a gallery of unforgettable portrayals. They earned him seven Academy Award nominations and the best actor prize for "Tender Mercies," which came out in 1983. He also won four Golden Globes, including one for playing the philosophical cattle-drive boss in the 1989 miniseries "Lonesome Dove," a role he often cited as his favorite. In 2005, Duvall was awarded a National Medal of Arts. He had been acting for some 20 years when "The Godfather," released in 1972, established him as one of the most in-demand performers of Hollywood. He had made a previous film, "The Rain People," with Francis Coppola, and the director chose him to... Read More
