Director Duran Sodré has joined Eleanor, the production company headed by president Sophie Gold, for his first U.S. representation.
Among Sodré’s notable credits are Moderna x U.S. Open’s “Ashe Versus” and Victoria’s “Nuestros Manos.” The former, a blend of mixed media and sports storytelling, honors history-making tennis and civil rights champion Arthur Ashe. “Nuestros Manos” is a tactile, dynamic and vibrant visual epic exploring the historical and cultural importance of handmade culinary masterpieces.
Sodré’s evergreen curiosity informs his storytelling voice. He explained, “I don’t like to judge things, I like to understand things. This is a feature of me, my way to live. It is why I am able to investigate things and collaborate on things.”
The director’s body of work has earned assorted awards at competitions ranging from Ciclope to D&AD, the Clios, UKMVA and the Cannes Lions.
Sodré’s approach to directing actors is informed by his background in the craft, “I love to direct actors,” said Sodré, “As a bad actor in the past, I love to direct. I know their insecurities. I know how to guide them to create good things and real things. I like to listen.”
On joining Eleanor, Sodré celebrates feeling electrified by the intention and ambition he found from his new directorial home. “This urge to grow, this mission to evolve, I like that drive in the production company,” he said. “I want to grow together. I’m excited to work in the American market.”
Gold added, “With a quiet humility and a fierce collaborative spirit, Sodré tells stories that unfold like poetry–each frame a study in humanity, intimacy, and instinct.”
