Director Giancarlo Sánchez Joins Superprime For His 1st U.S. Spot Representation

    Giancarlo Sánchez
    CULVER CITY, Calif. --

Production company Superprime has added director Giancarlo Sánchez to its roster for his first career U.S. commercial representation.

Sánchez is an award-winning director best known for his work on “Evert_45,” an interactive campaign for Dutch telecom brand KPN which uses technology to make the stories of World War II veterans accessible to younger viewers. Told in multiple videos across social media and YouTube, the campaign won three awards at Cannes Lions this year, including the Grand Prix in the Cannes Lions Entertainment competition.

Sánchez hails from Amsterdam, where he attended film school at The Netherlands Film Academy. He completed his first short film Gameboy while still in school, garnering numerous awards. Since graduating, Sánchez’s work has spanned TV commercials, music videos, film, and TV series. A unifying theme of his work is innovative storytelling.

Rebecca Skinner, Superprime Films’ managing director, said, “Giancarlo has an incredible eye for talent and capturing performances that move you. Evert_45 is an example of capturing a moving performance and taking a historical subject matter and filming it in a modern language that speaks to younger generations.”

Sánchez stated, “One would think that joining such an amazing roster of very talented directors would make one feel very tiny and insignificant. It does. Nevertheless I’m thrilled to be part of the Superprime family.”

Sánchez’s additional past work includes the Dutch TV movie Godforsaken: Christmas Gift, the short film Horizon, and the Dutch TV series 4Jim. Horizon won Best Television Drama at the Netherlands Film Festival’s Golden Calf awards. Sánchez’s next project is for the first Dutch Netflix Original Series which begins filming in January 2019. He is repped by Czar for commercials in Amsterdam.

With the addition of Sánchez, Superprime ramps up an already busy year. Recent project highlights include an interactive experience created by Terrence Malick for Facebook and projects for Under Armour and La Mer.

Takeover Bid Of Parent Company Means Limbo For CNN, Some Fellow Cable Networks

    Tuesday, December 9, 2025

Paramount Skydance's hostile takeover bid of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced Monday, places CNN and its sister cable networks squarely back into what is likely to be an extended period of management limbo. There was some relief at CNN with last Friday's announcement that Netflix was buying Warner's studio and streaming businesses, since the cable network would not be a part of that deal. Paramount's bid, if successful, opens the possibility of a combined CNN and CBS News. The management uncertainty adds to what is already a challenging time at CNN, where there was no doubt who was in charge before swashbuckling founder Ted Turner sold his company in 1996. "That era might as well be the roaring '20s for how long ago it feels," said Ross Benes, senior analyst at emarketer.com. Paramount's bid, which must be approved by shareholders and regulators, could be seen favorably by President Donald Trump, who is closely allied with Paramount Skydance chairman and CEO David Ellison as well as his father, Oracle founder Larry Ellison. But Trump has already expressed anger at the company on social media for Sunday's "60 Minutes" report on former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Prior to Friday's announcement, Warner Bros. Discovery had said it planned to spin off its cable television networks including CNN, Discovery, HGTV, the Food Network and TLC, into a separate company. The growth of streaming has made cable networks an unattractive business. “Those announcements lead to more uncertainty and greater anxiety among the current CNN staff and among those of us who served for many years as leaders of CNN under Ted,” said Tom Johnson, former CNN president in the 1990s. CNN's television ratings have tumbled to the extent that it is firmly the third-rated... Read More
