Director Imanol Ruiz de Lara Joins Eleanor For Spots and Branded Projects

    Imanol Ruiz de Lara
    LOS ANGELES --

Director Imanol Ruiz de Lara has joined Eleanor–the production house under the aegis of president Sophie Gold–for U.S. representation across commercial and branded projects. The Spanish filmmaker’s commercial work is defined by choreographed movement, visual storytelling and a surreal sense of humor.

Born in Madrid and raised in Gijón as the son of actors, Ruiz de Lara has a background in performance which is foundational to his directing style. He began his career in fashion film, collaborating with platforms and brands including Vogue, Yves Saint Laurent, and Adolfo Domínguez. His Vogue fashion films, Haunted by Love and Europa II, earned Best Fashion Film and Best Director awards at international festivals including the La Jolla International Film Festival and the Canadian International Film Festival.

He made his commercial debut with “Collisions” for Heart Ibiza, which earned a slot on a Cannes Lions shortlist. Prior to joining Eleanor, Ruiz de Lara most recently had U.S. commercial representation via WeThePeople Pictures.

Alongside his commercial work, Ruiz de Lara has written and directed three short films that have received over 200 official selections at international festivals qualifying for the Goya and Academy Awards, with more than 70 awards in total. This narrative experience continues to inform his commercial work through a focus on performance and structure.

Joining forces with Eleanor in the U.S. marks a natural next step as Ruiz de Lara expands his commercial presence in the American market. “I’m very excited to begin this new chapter with Eleanor and to be part of the team,” said Ruiz de Lara. “It’s the perfect place to take on new and exciting challenges.”

Eleanor’s Gold said, “Imanol brings an incredible level of precision to his work. Every element is choreographed, but it never feels rigid. His films are playful, visually confident, and built with real control, which makes him a strong partner for brands looking to do something distinctive.”

Celeste Hughey, Keke Palmer Take Us To “The Burbs” For A Mix of Horror, Comedy and Social Commentary

The suburbs are anything but bland in the new Peacock series "The 'Burbs," where strange things are going on. Like how jokes mix with the dread. Inspired by the 1989 Tom Hanks-led movie of the same name, "The 'Burbs" follows a new mom as she navigates a foreign world of white picket fences and manicured lawns while also investigating a possible murder. "It's got the comedy, it has the drama, it's got the mystery, it's got the horror, the thrills, the suspense — all of it," says Celeste Hughey, the creator, writer and executive producer. All eight episodes drop Friday. Hanks is replaced by Keke Palmer, who plays a newlywed and new mom who moves into her husband's family home in fictional Hinkley Hills, where everyone is in everybody else's business. "Suburbia is a spectator sport," she is told. Across the street is an abandoned home, where a local teen disappeared decades ago. Palmer's Samira soon joins forces with a band of off-beat suburbanites to help solve the case, even if her own husband had some sort of role. "I really wanted to focus on that fish-out-of-water feeling, centering Samira as a Black woman in a white suburb who is a new mom, a new wife — new everything — and trying to figure out where she belongs in the environment," says Hughey. Jokes and social commentary The cast includes Jack Whitehall as Samira's husband and the trio of Julia Duffy, Mark Proksch and Paula Pell as her wine-swilling, investigating neighbors who form a sort of found family. "The movie came out when I was quite young, but I remember seeing it as a kid and it being like this terrifying movie to me," says Hughey. "But revisiting it as an adult, it's just like the most timely movie." The scripts crackle with witty humor, from references... Read More
