Christopher Huth–who recently cut projects for Walmart (via Dept W, Lloyd Lee Choi, director), Indeed (in-house, directors Rayka Zehtabchi and Sadé Clacken Joseph), and Citi (Publicis NY, Cole Webley, director)–has been promoted to editor/partner at bicoastal Union Editorial. Since joining the company, Huth has edited numerous high-profile spot projects, including “Love Calls Back,” a campaign for LGBTQ Pride Month, (via McCann NY, directed by Lee Hirsch) produced by Verizon in partnership with PFLAG, the nation’s largest organization uniting families and allies with people who are LGBTQ; Microsoft Surface Pro (via m:united, Erich Joiner, director); and Los Angeles LGBT Center (via RPA, Lena Beug, director). Huth also edited Ava & Bianca, a short documentary film directed by Rachel Fleit that portrays the profound friendship between Ava Benjamin Schorr and Bianca Cline, who are both transgender female cinematographers.
“I have always loved Chris’s work and admired his can-do attitude, and I could see a future with him as our partner,” said Union partner/managing director Caryn Maclean, who presides over the company with partner/managing director Michael Raimondi, Executive producer Melissa Lubin in NY, and executive producer Vicki Russell in Austin. “This is a development that’s being celebrated across the entire company.”
“There’s no place I’d rather store my Avid settings,” said Huth, who joined Union as a staff editor in 2017. He broke out with AICP Best in Show honoree “Dear Sophie,” for Google Chrome via BBH and Google Creative Labs, and another Google piece, “Demo Slam,” directed by Tim Abshire via Johannes Leonardo, won a Gold Lion for Film at Cannes, as well as Gold and Silver Clios, in 2011. Huth edited the 2016 Cannes Direct Gold Lion-winner “DadDo” for Pantene via Grey, directed by Pam Thomas.
Graduating in 2006 with a BA from the University of Michigan’s Department of Screen Arts and Cultures, Huth took a path that would lead him through other creative pursuits before taking his seat in the bay: he spent a year as a House Fellow at Villa Guicciardini in Florence, Italy, and another year as resident curator at UnionDocs in Brooklyn, NY. Huth honed his craft at Lost Planet under Hank Corwin. Among his first opportunities was the aforementioned “Dear Sophie.” Huth counts AT&T’s “It’s not Complicated” (BBDO, Jorma Taccone, director) and HoneyMaid’s “Anthem” (Droga5, Martin+Lindsay, directors) among his favorite projects. In 2014, he edited Visa’s Olympics entry, “Faces,” via BBDO and directed by Sweetgrass.
Director Michael Middelkoop Joins Production House 100% For Global Representation
Director Michael Middelkoop is joining Amsterdam-based 100% (formerly HALAL) for commercial representation worldwide. The signing comes after Middelkoop’s upcoming film Dit Is Geen Kerstfilm (This is not a Christmas movie) won big at this year’s Nederlands Film Festival, garnering three “Golden Calves” (the Dutch equivalent of the Academy Awards)--for Best Director, Best Screenplay (Lotte Tabbers) and Best Supporting Actor (Laura Baker). The absurdist ensemble comedy was produced by 100% and will be released on December 19 exclusively on Prime Video.
Prior to coming aboard 100% for U.S. and international representation spanning spots and branded content, Middelkoop was repped in the Netherlands by Czar. The former advertising creative director likes to play with the familiar and the unexpected, imbuing his work with authenticity and multiculturalism. Middelkoop’s body of work encompasses commercials (including a Cannes Bronze Lion winner in 2015), short films, features, TV and web series. His credits include Netflix & Chill, a horror comedy; Snor, a surrealist story about accepting a lost love; and the TV series Zina.
After studying Film in Amsterdam, the Rotterdam-born Middelkoop started his career as an art director at agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Happiness Brussels, Achtung! and Dawn, before finally directing for brands such as adidas, Tele2, Lego and Asics--experimenting with new techniques to connect with youth culture.
Gijs Determeijer, partner and executive producer of 100%, said, “We have really loved working with Michael on his feature film over the past year. The whole process went so smoothly--and working with Michael truly felt like one big party. We are... Read More
