Filmmaker Josh Safdie Joins Superprime Films For Commercial Representation

    Josh Safdie
    LOS ANGELES --

Superprime Films has brought filmmaker Josh Safdie aboard its roster for commercial and branded representation globally. This marks Safdie’s first signing to a commercial production company.

Safdie has become a defining voice in contemporary cinema. The Safdie brothers (Benny and Josh) have carved out a fiercely original lane, telling stories with raw energy and emotional urgency–garnering widespread critical acclaim with films such as Heaven Knows What (2015), Good Time (2017), and Uncut Gems (2019). On the strength of the latter, starring Adam Sandler, the Safdie brothers won Best Director at the Independent Spirit Awards and New York Film Critics Circle. Additionally on the strength of Uncut Gems, Josh Safdie, Benny Safdie and Ronald Bronstein received the National Board of Review’s award for Best Original Screenplay.

Raised between Queens and Manhattan, Josh Safdie has turned out work which draws heavily on the city’s texture and rhythms. His films are often inspired more by lived experience than by cinematic reference. Across his body of work, Safdie has remained hands-on–directing, writing, producing, editing, and acting–and has developed a signature approach defined by spontaneity, viscerality, intuition, and a fascination with the emotional lives of those who walk their own paths.

Safdie is currently in postproduction on Marty Supreme, an A24 feature he directed and co-wrote about a ping pong hustler who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, with supporting performances from Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler the Creator, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, Penn Jillette and Fran Drescher. The film is slated for release on December 25, 2025.

Superprime co-founder Rebecca Skinner shared, “We’ve admired Josh’s work for years, and we are honored to finally work with him in the branded space. With his dedication and hands-on approach to everything he does, Josh brings a level of intention that will elevate any campaign.”

Safdie joins a celebrated lineup of filmmakers at Superprime, including Martin Scorsese, Yorgos Lanthimos, Chloé Zhao, and Sean Baker.

Takeover Bid Of Parent Company Means Limbo For CNN, Some Fellow Cable Networks

    Tuesday, December 9, 2025

Paramount Skydance's hostile takeover bid of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced Monday, places CNN and its sister cable networks squarely back into what is likely to be an extended period of management limbo. There was some relief at CNN with last Friday's announcement that Netflix was buying Warner's studio and streaming businesses, since the cable network would not be a part of that deal. Paramount's bid, if successful, opens the possibility of a combined CNN and CBS News. The management uncertainty adds to what is already a challenging time at CNN, where there was no doubt who was in charge before swashbuckling founder Ted Turner sold his company in 1996. "That era might as well be the roaring '20s for how long ago it feels," said Ross Benes, senior analyst at emarketer.com. Paramount's bid, which must be approved by shareholders and regulators, could be seen favorably by President Donald Trump, who is closely allied with Paramount Skydance chairman and CEO David Ellison as well as his father, Oracle founder Larry Ellison. But Trump has already expressed anger at the company on social media for Sunday's "60 Minutes" report on former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Prior to Friday's announcement, Warner Bros. Discovery had said it planned to spin off its cable television networks including CNN, Discovery, HGTV, the Food Network and TLC, into a separate company. The growth of streaming has made cable networks an unattractive business. “Those announcements lead to more uncertainty and greater anxiety among the current CNN staff and among those of us who served for many years as leaders of CNN under Ted,” said Tom Johnson, former CNN president in the 1990s. CNN's television ratings have tumbled to the extent that it is firmly the third-rated... Read More
