    “First Man, “Destroyer,” “Roma” Among Films Selected For Telluride Fest Lineup

    TELLURIDE, Colo. --

    The official program selections for the 45th edition of the Telluride Film Festival–which runs from Aug. 31-Sept. 3–has been unveiled. Presented by the National Film Preserve, TFF’s celebration of artistic excellence brings together cinema enthusiasts, filmmakers and artists to discover the best in world cinema in the beautiful mountain town of Telluride, Colorado. TFF will screen more than 60 feature films, short films and revival programs representing 22 countries, along with special artist Tributes, Conversations, Panels, Student Programs and Festivities. 

    The main program selections for the 2018 Telluride Fest are:

    Silver Medallions
    The 2018 Silver Medallion Awards, given to recognize an artist’s significant contribution to the world of cinema, will be presented to Academy Award winning director Alfonso Cuarón (with Roma), Academy Award-winning actor Emma Stone (with The Favourite) and Oscar-nominated Rithy Panh (with Graves Without a Name). Tribute programs include a selection of clips followed by the presentation of the Silver Medallion, an onstage interview and a screening of the aforementioned films. 

    Guest Director
    Guest director Jonathan Lethem, who serves as a key collaborator in the Festival’s program, will presentsthe following revival programs:

    • Bigger Than Life (directed by Nicholas Ray, U.S., 1956)
    • Never Cry Wolf (directed by Carroll Ballard, U.S., 1983)
    • The Tarnished Angels (directed by Douglas Sirk, U.S., 1957)

    Additional film revival programs include Christian Wahnschaffe, Parts I and II (directed by Urban Gad, Germany, 1920 – 1921), Fieeovre (directed by Louis Delluc, France, 1921), Coeur Fid Eoole (directed by Louis Delluc, France, 1923) and Remous (directed by Edmond T. Gréville, France, 1934).

    Special Medallion
    Telluride Film Festival annually celebrates a hero of cinema who preserves, honors and presents great movies. This year’s Special Medallion award goes to Dieter Kosslick, film critic, journalist and researcher and current director of the Berlin International Film Festival. The Special Medallion film, Eldorado (directed by Markus Imhoof, Germany-Switzerland, 2018), will screen in celebration. 

    Backlot
    Backlot, Telluride’s intimate screening room featuring behind-the-scenes movies and portraits of artists, musicians and filmmakers, will screen the following programs:

    Duane “Keffe D” Davis’ Murder Trial Heads To Closing In Tupac Shakur’s 1996 Killing

    The murder trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur is headed to closing arguments after the defense rested Thursday following testimony from three former Las Vegas police officers.

    Jurors are scheduled to return Monday for closing arguments before beginning deliberations in the only prosecution brought in the killing of the hip-hop icon. The presentation of evidence ended after nine days of testimony.

    Davis, 63, did not take the stand.

    Shakur was riding in a BMW on Sept. 7, 1996, when a white Cadillac pulled up next to it at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip and gunfire erupted. Shakur was shot multiple times and died six days later. The driver of the BMW, Marion "Suge" Knight, survived.

    Years later, Davis would say he procured the gun and his nephew, who has since died, fired the shots. Prosecutors say Davis orchestrated the killing, and he faces life in prison if convicted of murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. He has pleaded not guilty.

    Defense attorney Michael Sanft has argued that Davis fabricated or embellished his accounts of the killing for money and notoriety and that investigators failed to independently corroborate his claims.

    Retired Las Vegas homicide detective Dan Long, the defense's final witness, testified that he tried unsuccessfully to verify several details Davis provided during a 2009 police interview.

    Davis told Long that his nephew, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, had gone to a Las Vegas hospital after being beaten by Shakur and others in a casino brawl hours before the rapper was fatally shot. Long said he was unable to find hospital records confirming Anderson was treated there.
