The three show that topped the Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards’ nominations tally this year had decidedly different results as the organization announced the winners today.
Heated Rivalry (Crave/HBO Max) scored one win from its five Television Critics Association (TCA) Award nominations–but it turned out to be the marquee Program of the Year honor. Meanwhile Widow’s Bay (Apple TV), which also garnered five nods, wound up winning three times, topping the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, Outstanding New Program, and Individual Achievement in Comedy categories–the latter honor earned by Kate O’Flynn. The third show with five nominations, The Industry (HBO Max), did not come up a winner.
Other highlights included two repeat performances. The Pitt (HBO Max) won Outstanding Achievement in Drama for the second straight year. And The Traitors (Peacock) took Outstanding Achievement in Reality for the third consecutive season.
Death by Lightning (Netflix) topped the Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or Specials category. Rhea Seehorn’s breakthrough performance in Pluribus (Apple TV) won for Individual Achievement in Drama.
Honors for Outstanding Achievement in Animation and Outstanding International Series–two new TCA Award categories–went to Long Story Short (Netflix) and Squid Game (Netflix), respectively.
Steven Colbert topped one category and received a special honor. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, in its farewell season on CBS, won for Outstanding Achievement in Variety, Talk or Sketch, while Colbert himself earned a special Career Achievement honor from the TCA.
The year’s other special honor, the Heritage Award, went to In Living Color (Fox).
Rounding out the category winners were: The American Revolution (PBS) for Outstanding Achievement in News and Information; Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical (Apple TV) for Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming; and Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+/Hulu) for Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming.
