    LOS ANGELES --

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes won the marquee honor–Outstanding VFX in a Photoreal Feature–at the 23rd Annual Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards on Tuesday evening (2/11).

Meanwhile Dune: Part Two garnered the most photoreal feature wins, with four awards. The Wild Robot was named top animated film, winning four awards. Shōgun earned best photoreal episode distinction, winning three awards; The Penguin also garnered three awards. Coca-Cola’s “The Heroes” topped the commercial field.

Comedy duo The Sklar Brothers made their debut as hosts of the VES Awards, which were held at the Beverly Hilton. Actor Keanu Reeves presented Golden Globe-winning actor-producer Hiroyuki Sanada with the VES Award for Creative Excellence. Renowned computer graphics researcher Paul Debevec, VES, presented VR/immersive technology pioneer Dr. Jacquelyn Ford Morie with the Georges Méliès Award. Writer-director Michael Dougherty presented Academy Award-winning filmmaker and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki with the Visionary Award.

“As we celebrate the 23rd Annual VES Awards, we’re honored to shine a light on outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation,” said VES chair Kim Davidson. “The honorees and their work represent best-in-class visual effects – work that engages audiences and enhances the art of storytelling. Writer-Director Ian Tuason Deploys Sound To Scare You In Minimalist Horror “Undertone”

She's the skeptic of the podcast, which she does with a remote co-host (Adam DiMarco) in the middle of the night. Nothing can scare her, but this new investigation, in which they try to decode a series of unnerving audio files sent anonymously, has rattled her. Why sound is so scary Tuason always dreamed of being a filmmaker, but he began his career in virtual reality and made a name for himself as an early proponent of immersive 3D sound for his cinematic horror shorts, which have been viewed millions of times. Soundscapes became his calling card. So, when he sat... Read More
