Louis McCourt Joins The Directorial Roster At Love Song

    Louis McCourt
    LOS ANGELES --

Production company Love Song has added director Louis McCourt to its roster for his first official representation in the U.S. and U.K.

McCourt’s path to filmmaking began with a single email to director Daniel Wolfe, who has since become a co-founder of Love Song, after seeing Wolfe’s thriller feature Catch Me Daddy. McCourt followed up with a steady stream of emails over the subsequent 18 months. That persistence led to his first industry role as Wolfe’s assistant, launching a seven-year collaboration that laid the foundation for his directing career. Working closely with Wolfe, McCourt was promoted from image researcher to assistant director and then co-director. During this time, he developed a distinctive approach to street casting and directing real people, capturing moments that feel intimate and alive.

McCourt’s body of work spans acclaimed commercial and narrative projects. With fellow Love Song directors Will Dohrn, Bafic, Elliott Power, Justyna Obasi, and Daniel Wolfe, McCourt was part of the directing team that directed Channel 4’s idents in 2023, with the interstitials winning the Grand Prix at CICLOPE along with many other accolades. McCourt also co-directed “Clock Off” and “One” with Daniel Wolfe as part of EE’s rebranding campaign, later directing “Battle Stations” for the EE Games Store solo. McCourt received a Cannes Gold YDA Award for directing “Life Delivered” for Ocado through Uncommon Creative Studio. McCourt’s short film “No Faces” was recognized on the YDA shortlist that same year. Most recently, McCourt directed the heartwarming holiday spot “Feel It All” for O2.

Wolfe said of McCourt, “He’s a rare talent. His knowledge of cinema, storytelling and most of all human emotion is like none other. He makes me care about the characters, he makes me care about the worlds. He creates films so immersive and believable; they’re human, they’re emotional. Without being sentimental–they’re honest, really honest. Could not be prouder to have him on the Love Song roster. Watch out.”

“This partnership was a natural progression, one that I do not take for granted,” remarked McCourt on signing with Love Song. “Daniel Wolfe has mentored me since I was a runner who knew nothing about the industry, to now being a director, and it’s something I’m incredibly grateful for. Working so closely with him, Kelly [Bayett, Love Song’s co-founder], and [EP] Shirley [O’Connor] for the past few years, I’ve seen firsthand what a nurturing quality Love Song has. They’re the best of the best, and I’m elated to join the ranks of their directorial roster.”

Review: Writer-Director Ian Tuason Makes Feature Debut With “Undertone”

Writer-director Ian Tuason's feature debut, the sonic-driven horror "Undertone," has, at least at the outset, an appealingly stripped-down quality. The 30-something Evy Babic (Nina Kiri) lives with her dying, comatose mother (Michèle Duquet). The movie never leaves their small, two-story home. Upstairs, Evy's mother lies wordlessly in a bed. Downstairs, Evy, at 3 a.m. puts on headphones, sits in front of a microphone and calls up her paranormal podcast co-host Justin (Adam DiMarco's voice) to talk "all things creepy." It's a testament to Tuason's evident filmmaking talent that, with these bare bones, "Undertone" swells into a gripping and unsettling experience. This is a movie that summons many of its scares with a sudden boost in audio levels, the thunderous tick of a clock or the scream of … a tea kettle. It's even rated "R" not for bloodcurdling violence or satanic ghouls but, simply, "language." It's these subtle qualities that make "Undertone" a spare but deftly dense film and Tuason a filmmaker to watch. It's the movie's disappointing second half, though, that breaks its quiet spell. After conjuring a tapestry of tension through narrative drips, as well as literal ones, Tuason throws in the whole kitchen sink, drowning out "Undertone" with a cacophony of genre cliches. Ancient Christian lore is invoked, as are children's lullabies, and the riveting nuance of "Undertone" slips away in all the feedback. "I want it to be over," Evy tells Justin. "Is that a bad thing to say?" Evy's mother hasn't eaten in two days, and her emotional exhaustion is clear when she first connects with her London-based co-host. You might here be wondering if the movie digs into this guilt, but "Undertone" is better at leaving carefully placed clues than following... Read More
