McCann NY Has Grand Time At London International Awards

Lockheed Martin's "The Field Trip to Mars" won a pair of Grand LIAs in addition to assorted other honors at the London International Awards. This piece of work was also key in earning McCann NY Agency of the Year distinction, with McCann Worldgroup being named Network of the Year.

U.S. is must honored country with 185 statues, including 5 Grand LIAs

    NEW YORK --

McCann New York earned Agency of the Year distinction at the London International Awards, scoring two Grand LIAs, 11 Gold, 4 Silver, 4 Bronze statues, and 3 finalists.

The pair of Grand LIAs came in the Branded Entertainment and The NEW competitions for Lockheed Martin’s “The Field Trip to Mars.” Six different juries awarded statues to this same piece of work: Branded Entertainment, Design, Digital, Integration, Non-Traditional and The NEW. These awards also contributed to McCann Worldgroup being named Network of the Year.

Emad Tahtouh, director, applied technology at FINCH and LIA Jury President for The NEW, commented, “‘Field Trip to Mars’ is a beautiful example of pushing a concept and a technology beyond its limits. Not content with simply providing the best VR experience available using today’s technology, ‘Field Trip to Mars’ required the invention and deft execution of several new technologies in order to fulfill the promise of the idea. It is extremely complex and ingenious in its design, however it is simple and beautiful in its execution.”

Venables Bell & Partners, San Francisco, also scored impressively, taking home two Grand LIAs awarded for REI titled “#OptOutside” by the Integration and Non-Traditional juries.

Mark Tutssel, global chief creative officer, Leo Burnett Worldwide, and Jury President of Non-Traditional, said: “The Non-Traditional Jury’s mission was to uncover and celebrate brave, unorthodox thinking with massive cultural impact and business transformation. REI’s “#OptOutside” shocked the industry and consumers alike with its counterintuitive move to embrace its core values and shut its doors on the biggest day of the year [Black Friday] for retailers. That decision, coupled with a highly interactive online execution, spurred a new cultural movement and ignited unrivaled loyalty for a brand.”

In total, the U.S. won five Grand LIAs, the remaining one going to Culver City, Calif.-based production company PRETTYBIRD in the Music Video competiton for the Coldplay clip “Up&Up.”

Diane Jackson, chief production officer at DDB Chicago and LIA Music Video Jury President, commented, “[‘Up&Up’ directors] Vania Heymann & Gal Muggia bring complete originality to the screen in a visual feast that has a Hannah Hoch photomontage sensibility with a modern twist. We are constantly seduced by technical wizardry but this film’s seemingly low-fi ingenuity makes it impossible to ignore. This year’s music video submissions were outstanding but Coldplay’s ‘Up& Up’ totally engages, surprises and delights, so earning the Grand LIA.” She went on to say, “The range of work, from diverse markets and the quality of production was outstanding. We had to exercise discernment and often put aside our own cultural biases to give each entry full consideration for the categories it was submitted. I am proud of the awards given this year and feel that the work represents the best crafted productions in 2016.”

The U.S. was the most awarded country with 185 statues. The 31st LIA judging was held at the Encore at Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, convening over a 10-day period. The Juries, led by their respective Jury Presidents, viewed and scored every entry within their medium, ensuring that all the work was judged equally. They concluded with final discussions to determine Grand LIAs, Statue Winners and Finalists.

The U.S. garnered 5 of the 14 Grand LIAs this year. The other Grand winners were:

“Sinners” Tops Guild of Music Supervisors Awards With 3 Nominations

    Wednesday, January 14, 2026

The Guild of Music Supervisors has unveiled the nominations for its 16th Annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards. The ceremony honors outstanding achievement in the craft of music supervision in film, television, documentaries, advertising, trailers, and video games.

Sinners leads this year’s contenders earning three nominations recognizing Niki Sherrod’s music supervision and two original songs. Additional film contenders include Wicked: For Good, F1, and Marty Supreme. Top TV contenders include The Studio, Dark Winds, and Poker Face. The Icon and Legacy Recipients will be announced at a later date.

In a joint statement, Guild president Lindsay Wolfington and VP Heather Guibert shared, “In a year that was challenging for our city and our industry, we are excited to see an abundance of great work from the music supervision community-- congratulations to our nominees! Pairing the right music and visuals is essential for evoking emotion, setting tone, and transporting audiences to new worlds. We have seen time and again how this vital pairing elevates content across all visual media. This year’s nominees once again highlight the importance of music supervision to storytelling.”

The winners will be announced during the awards gala at The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 28. Performances and celebrity presenters will be revealed at a later date.
