    LONDON --

Global production company Merman has entered into a joint venture partnership with Independent Talent Group (ITG), a talent and literary agency in Europe handling directors, producers writers and actors, to exclusively produce advertising and branded content, with ITG taking an equity stake within Merman London.

The joint venture will see select notable talent represented by ITG working with Merman and collaborating with brands in the advertising and branded content space on a worldwide basis.

This is the latest development in the current Merman global strategy which commenced earlier this year, with the merger of New York-based commercials production company a WHITELABEL product under the Merman USA banner. For ITG the new venture will see the closure of its award-winning commercials production company, Black Label.

The Merman USA leadership team in Los Angeles and New York is headed by managing partners Kira Carstensen, Annique DeCaestecker and Ellen Clarke. Merman London continues under managing director Siobhan Murphy and managing partner Jeremy Rainbird, with Duncan Heath, ITG co-chairman, becoming chairman of the Merman London board.

Merman currently creates TV, film, branded entertainment, advertising and short form episodic content out of its three offices in London, New York and Los Angeles.

The Merman ITG partnership will offer a global hub of creativity and talent across all genres in both advertising and entertainment.

Merman co-founder, actress, director, producer, writer Sharon Horgan said, “This partnership with ITG has brought Merman a wealth of extraordinary talent and we are thrilled to now have an even greater ability to make groundbreaking work in collaboration with brands.”

Heath added, “I am personally very proud of the work that our director clients including Matthew Vaughn, Asif Kapadia, Anton Corbijn, Dexter Fletcher and Martin Campbell created under the Black Label banner, and we are very excited to join forces with Merman in the new venture.”

Merman’s TV division, launched in 2014, is run by Horgan and Clelia Mountford. Merman has won many accolades including BAFTA, RTS and Emmy nominations and wins. In 2017, Merman and Amazon Studios inked a seven figure first-look deal in the US.

Merman’s TV projects include: Catastrophe for Channel 4/Amazon, Divorce for HBO, There She Goes for BBC2, Women on the Verge for W/RTE, Motherland for BBC2, This Way Up for Channel 4/Hulu, and Frayed for ABC Australia/Sky One. Projects currently in pilot are Delilah for FX, Guru and Dirty for Amazon, Shining Vale for Starz and Therapy Dog for Fox, plus others to be announced.

Merman recently wrapped filming on its first feature, Herself, a co-production with Element Pictures shot in Dublin. Directed by Phyllidia Lloyd, written by and starring Clare Dunne, the film is produced by Horgan and Ed Guiney.

In 2018 Merman launched Mermade, its digital little sister, specializing in the creation of premium content of all shapes and sizes, funded by and for social and streaming platforms, brands and publishers, with a particular focus on short-form episodic.

Cannes Film Festival’s Auteur-Heavy Lineup Features Films by Almodovar, Pawlikowski and Hamaguchi

    Thursday, April 9, 2026

New films by Polish filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski, Japanese writer-director Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Spain's Pedro Almodovar will premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival next month.

Organizers for the South of France festival, which runs May 12-23, laid out a lineup heavy on big-name international auteurs at a news conference Thursday in Paris.

Cannes' most sought-after slots are in its competition lineup. This year, 21 films will vie for the Palme d'Or. That includes "Fatherland," a Cold War drama starring Sandra Hüller by Pawlikowski ("Ida," "Cold War" ); "All of a Sudden," the French language debut for Hamaguchi ( "Drive My Car" ); and Almodovar's "Bitter Christmas" ("Amarga Navidad") which has already opened in Spain.

Cannes is so far light on Hollywood releases and American filmmakers. One exception in competition is Ira Sachs' "The Man I Love," a New York tale starring Rami Malek set during the 1980s AIDS crisis. In the Un Certain Regard sidebar, Jane Schoenbrun will unveil their follow-up to 2014's "I Saw the TV Glow": "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma," about the making of a slasher movie. It stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson.

Previous Palme d'Or winners will be represented
A number of former Palme winners are in the mix. That includes Romanian auteur Cristian Mungiu's Norway-set "Fjord," starring the recently Oscar-nominated Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan. Mungiu's "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" won the Palme in 2007.

Also returning is Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, whose 2018 drama... Read More
