    NEW YORK --

For the fourth consecutive year, bicoastal/international production house MJZ topped the AICP Show at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, this time scoring a grand total of 10 honors. Director Tom Kuntz led the charge for MJZ at the 18th annual competition.
Work directed by Kuntz scored seven Show honors while spots by MJZ’s Rupert Sanders tallied a pair of honors, with the remaining MJZ honoree being helmed by Dante Ariola.
        The Kuntz-directed “Pinata” for Skittles out of TBWAChiatDay, New York, figured prominently in the mix, earning honors in the Advertising Excellence/Single Commercial (Best of Show spot), Humor, and Performance/Dialogue categories. Another Kuntz-helmed Skittles spot, “Tailor,” also gained Performance/Dialogue recognition. The balance of Kuntz-directed honorees were: Cadbury’s “Eyebrows” out of Fallon U.K. in the Advertising Excellence/International category; CareerBuilder’s “Tips” via Wieden+Kennedy, Portland, Ore., in the Visual Style category; and Altoids’ “Promotion” from Energy BBDO, Chicago, for Production Design (production designer Roger Swanborough);
Rounding out the MJZ-produced Show honorees were: two Sanders-directed commercials–Lexus’ “Lift Off” from Team One, El Segundo, Calif., in the Production category; and Jordan Brand’s “Field Generals” from W+K, New York, for Sound Design (sound designers were Bill Chesley of Henry Boy, N.Y., and Neil Smith of bicoastal Spot Welders); and an Ariola-helmed Pepsi spot, “Refresh,” for TBWAChiatDay, Los Angeles, which scored in the Musical Arrangement category (Will.I.Am, the Black Eyed Peas).
Right behind MJZ in the production house derby was Los Angeles-based Biscuit Filmworks with eight honorees–four directed by Tim Godsall, three by Noam Murro, and one by Clay Weiner.
Three of Godsall’s four honorees came for the Environmental Defense Fund/Ad Council’s “Polar Bears” via Ogilvy New York, which scored in the PSA, Next Viral/Web Film, and Agency Art Direction (Ogilvy creative director/art director Dustin Duke) categories. The Godsall-directed AMP energy drink spot “Walk Of No Shame” gained recognition in the Copywriting category (Alexis Bello of BBDO New York).
Murro’s three honorees were earned by Comcast Powerboost’s “Rabbit” out of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, in the Visual Effects (Animal Logic, Santa Monica and Sydney), Agency Art Direction (associate creative director/art director Nick Spahr), and Copywriting (group creative director/copywriter Mike McKay who has since become exec creative director at Saatchi LA) categories.
And Weiner’s honoree came in the Low Budget Category for Vote 2008’s “Palin as President: A Heartbeat Away,” also from Goodby.
Taking the third slot among production companies was bicoastal Anonymous Content with five honors–two for work directed by David Fincher, two helmed by Guy Ritchie, and one by Mark Romanek.
Ritchie directed Nike’s “Next Level” from 72andSunny, El Segundo, Calif., which scored recognition in the Production and Cinematography (DP David Higgs) categories. Meanwhile Fincher’s “Fate” for Nike and W+K, Portland, was honored in the Cinematography (DP Emmanuel Lubezki–who’s repped as a director by bicoastal/international Station Film) and Editorial (editor Angus Wall of Rock Paper Scissors, Santa Monica) categories.
The Romanek-directed Nike spot “Chalk” from W+K was honored in the Visual Style category.

    Three Fours
Three production companies each received four AICP Show honors: Bob Industries, Santa Monica; Superfad, N.Y., Culver City, Calif., and Seattle; and Psyop, New York.
All four Superfad honorees were for Durex condoms’ “Get It On” directed by Robert Rugan for Fitzgerald+CO, Atlanta, which garnered Show recognition in the Humor, Low Budget, Next Viral/Web Film, and Sound Design (sound designer Joel Raabe of Gramercy Post, N.Y.) categories.
Bob Industries and Psyop not only had four honors apiece but also shared in one of the honors as the Haagen Dazs “HD Loves HB” campaign out of Goodby secured a Next Integrated Campaign honor. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and Laurent Ledru of Psyop directed Haagen Dazs’ “Opera” while Bob’s Trish Sie helmed Haagen Dazs’ “Disco” and “Krumpin’.”
Bob Industries‘ other three Show honorees were: another Next Integrated Campaign plaudit for Goodby, “There Can Only Be One” for the NBA, TNT and ESPN/ABC, directed by Dayton/Faris; the Dayton/Faris-helmed NBA’s “Win” out of Goodby, which registered in the Editorial category (editor Kim Bica who was with bicoastal Lost Planet at the time and has since joined L.A.-based Arcade); and Audi A4’s “Living Room” directed by Jason Smith (who has since joined bicoastal/international HSI) for Venables, Bell & Partners, San Francisco, in the Original Music category (composer Nate Morgan of Elias Arts).
Meanwhile Psyop’s other three Show honorees were: Coca-Cola’s “Heist” directed by Todd Mueller and Kylie Matulick for W+K in the Visual Effects category; HP TouchSmart PC’s “Maestro” helmed by Mueller and Matulick for Goodby (Psyop graphic artists Jeffrey Dates, Dave Barosin, Ted Kotsadtis and Todd Akita); and Converse All Star’s “My Drive Thru” directed by Psyop’s Marie Hyon and Marco Spier for Anomaly, New York, in the Animation category.

Two Threes    A pair of production houses turned out three honorees apiece: Prettybird, Santa Monica, and Station Film.
Station Film produced the lone honoree in the Advertising Excellence/Campaign category: the Crest toothpaste package of offbeat humorous spots “Bulldozer,” “Lice” and “Pre Nup” directed by Harold Einstein for Saatchi & Saatchi New York. The Advertising Excellence/Campaign honoree is considered Best of Show-worthy along with the only honoree in the Advertising Excellence/Single Commercial category (the aforementioned Skittles’ “Pinata” produced by MJZ).
Individually the Station-produced “Lice” and “Bulldozer” for Crest scored honors, respectively, in the Copywriting (Saatchi’s Nathan Frank) and Humor categories.
Prettybird‘s three honors were directed by Paul Hunter: two for Audi’s “Gymnast” for BBH London in the Visual Style and Sound Design (sound designer Tony Rapacciolli of Wave Recording Studios, London) categories; and one for Unilever Rexona’s “Zoom” in the Production Design category (production designer Charles Infante).

Three Twos    Scoring two honors apiece in the production company derby were Gorgeous Enterprises, London, Duck Studios, Los Angeles, and NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Grad Film students Gregory Mitnick and Nat Livingston Johnson (director/producers/editors of Apple iTunes’ “Lost” and Slim Jim’s “Champs,” which took both honors in the Student Commercial category).
Gorgeous‘ two honorees were directed by Vince Squibb: HSBC’s “Lumberjack” for JWT New York in the Performance/Dialogue category; and Know Your Limits/Anti-Binge Drinking’s “Binge Girl” for VCCP, London, in the Advertising Excellence/International category.
Duck scored its couple of honors for two United Airlines spots from Minneapolis-based agency Barrie D’Rozario Murphy: “Sea Orchestra” directed and animated by Shy the Sun in the Animation category; and “Heart” directed by Jamie Caliri in the Agency Art Direction category (art director James Zucco).

Agencies    Topping the advertising agencies’ tally was Goodby (SHOOT‘s ’08 Agency of the Year) with a dozen honors.
Next was W+K with five, followed by three shops with four each: Fitzgerald + CO, Ogilvy New York, and TBWAChiatDay, New York.
Having a hand in three honors apiece were: 72andSunny; Barrie D’Rozario Murphy; BBH; and Saatchi N.Y.
JWT had two honorees, with several other shops scoring an honor apiece.
The AICP Show-honored work in all 26 categories becomes part of the permanent archives of MoMA’s Department of Film.

In Legal Dispute Over “The View,” ABC Accuses Trump Administration Of Trying To Chill Free Speech

    Friday, May 8, 2026

In a strongly worded filing, ABC accuses the Trump administration of trying to chill its constitutionally protected free speech and hinder open political discussion.

The point of contention: The popular show "The View," and whether it's subject to equal time rules.

ABC's filing to the Federal Communications Commission, made public Friday, came in a dispute involving one ABC station in Houston, KTRK-TV. But the wording indicated the network was embarking on a broader battle with the administration.

"The Commission's actions threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech, both with respect to 'The View' and more broadly," said the filing on behalf of both KTRK-TV and ABC.

The commission replied, in a statement emailed to The Associated Press, that equal time law "encourages more speech and empowers voters to decide the outcome of elections. The FCC will review Disney's assertion that 'The View' is a 'bona fide news program' and thus exempt from the political equal time rules."

The ABC filing appeared to be the latest volley inside and outside the legal arena between the U.S. media and the Trump White House over what journalists perceive as the president's attack on free speech and the media's ability to do its job. Trump has been critical of media outlets whose journalism runs counter to his agenda and sensibilities.

Among legal battles in the courts: a dispute between the Pentagon and The New York Times over access; a battle between the White House and The Associated Press over how to refer to the Gulf of Mexico; and Trump's anger at The Wall Street Journal over reporting about Jeffrey Epstein.

The dispute concerns content on "The View," ABC's long-running morning talk show,... Read More
