    LOS ANGELES (AP) --

Paramount Pictures didn't make CinemaCon wait for "Rocketman."

The Elton John musical starring Taron Egerton is one of the summer's most anticipated releases and the studio kicked things off on an upbeat note Thursday morning with some footage and a Las Vegas-worthy performance of "I'm Still Standing" with some sequin-clad dancers.

"Elton's known for his spectacle and his theatricality, and bringing the music to the big screen, was a challenge but also exciting," said director Dexter Fletcher.

His film, a high-energy, song and dance-filled "musical fantasy," out May 31, is intended to be an, "honest and truthful portrayal of a great man."

Although not a traditional biopic, it will hit on key moments in John's life, like his early days at the Royal Academy of Music, to that first performance at The Troubadour and his struggles with substances and fame.

Egerton did his own singing as the iconic performer and said that John has been "remarkably hands off."

"We always felt we wanted to be irreverent with the role and make audiences feel like they're getting a glimpse behind the curtain," Egerton said, noting that they wanted to show John's demons, but also make him likable.

Switching gears completely, the studio also showed some early "Terminator: Dark Fate" footage, where Linda Hamilton, toting guns and doling out one-liners, stole the show.

The film starring Mackenzie Davis is a direct sequel to James Cameron's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," thus ignoring the less-successful attempts to reboot the franchise like "Terminator Genisys." Cameron even came back to produce this installment, directed by "Deadpool's" Tim Miller.

"Isn't it great?  The whole team is back together again," Arnold Schwarzenegger marveled on the Las Vegas stage with Hamilton by his side. "It is so fantastic."

Cameron pitched Schwarzenegger the story, which is being tightly guarded, on a motorcycle ride (which they do together frequently). It hits theaters Nov. 1.

"I'm getting to the age where I can't do this forever. I'll be around for another 20 or 30 years, but I can't do this forever," the actor added. "It's a little depressing."

Adding to the star-power, Jim Carrey made a surprise appearance, too.

After throwing a bucket of popcorn all over the stage, Carrey quipped that he wanted to give the audience, "More than a taste of what a real star vehicle is like" following a preview of "Sonic the Hedgehog," in which he plays Dr. Robotnik.

Will Smith could only attend through video message to tease Ang Lee's "Gemini Man," an action film about an assassin facing an operative who "can predict his every move."

"Gemini Man" is out Oct. 11.

Review: Filmmaker Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” Starring Jennifer Lawrence

    Thursday, November 6, 2025

A primal punk spirit rages through Lynne Ramsay's "Die, My Love," a jagged, go-for-broke psychodrama starring Jennifer Lawrence as an increasingly unhinged new mother and Robert Pattinson as her husband. In this cauldron of marital nightmare, set in a ramshackle rural Montana home, there are fires, real and imagined, and a variety of wildlife. There's an incessantly yapping dog, brought home by Jackson (Pattinson) shortly after the couple move in from New York. There's a horse in the road, inopportunely. And on the shirt on Grace (Lawrence) is a tiger. But, more than these animalistic flourishes, there is Grace, herself. In a moment early in the film, she prowls on all fours through tall grass, with a knife in her hand. The shorthand description of Ramsay's film, adapted from a 2012 novel by the Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz, is that it's about a woman with postpartum depression. But that's not quite right. It's more about the power and urges of a woman who, like a beautiful, feral creature, is not taking to domestication. That's the appealing through line of "Die, My Love," though it can be difficult to firmly grasp it in Ramsay's piercing but tediously overamplified character study. Still, as unkempt and overwrought as "Die, My Love" is, it's not a movie that's timidly weighing in on parenting and gender roles. There's plenty to admire in Ramsay's uncompromising and delirious portrait of marital hell, particularly in the bracingly raw performance of Lawrence. The abandon with which she throws herself into the role is enough to make you exclaim "Mother!" Grace and Jackson have moved near his childhood home. Their house belonged to Jackson's uncle before he killed himself. Jackson's parents (Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek) live nearby, and Spacek's knowing... Read More
