    Special London Hires Gregory Fazal and Thomas Worthington, Creative Duo Formerly With W+K Amsterdam

    LONDON --

    Special London has hired the multi-award-winning creative team Gregory Fazal and Thomas Worthington as sr. creatives. The duo will work across Special clients including Employment Hero and Uber. They report to David Day, chief creative officer and partner.

    Fazal and Worthington join from Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam where they brought the Aurora Borealis to the skies of Manchester for Nike in a campaign that garnered over 8 million views in a week, and became one of Nike Football’s most viewed films of the year.

    During their time at W+K, they also created the “Every Decision Counts” work for Google, one of the tech giant’s first ever sustainability campaigns.

    Fazal and Worthington started their careers as the first team in the world to win a Yellow, White and Black Pencil for a single piece of work at D&AD New Blood for their Nationwide campaign “How it should be.” This landed them a job at Grey London working under Vicki Maguire and Nils Leonard, before they went on to work at BBC Creative, Havas and W+K Amsterdam.

    The duo’s creative credits also include brands such as BBC, Volkswagen, Comic Relief and Durex.

    Along with creating international award-winning work in advertising, Fazal and Worthington have also directed short films, authored a children’s book, a football magazine, comic book and an Apple Top 100 podcast, called Walking on Jupiter, a true story about surviving suicide, narrated by actor Stephen Graham.

    CCO Day said, “As Special London continues to grow, it’s important we find talent that are the embodiment of our values and ambitions; Greg and Thomas deliver and surpass on both counts.”

    In a joint statement, Fazal and Worthington shared what drew them to Special London: “Our mothers never called us special as children so this was our main motivation for joining. Secondary to this was the free Jammy Dodgers. And thirdly it was a chance to help build an agency with some truly, wonderfully, talentedly people.”

    Twenty years ago, Guillermo del Toro premiered "Pan's Labyrinth" at the Cannes Film Festival. He went in anxious. It was toward the end of the festival and many journalists had left. The movie's production had been a nightmare. Then the audience gave it a 22-minute standing ovation, the longest in Cannes history. "It's a commute," joked del Toro. "That's about what it takes me to get from home to the office. Alfonso Cuaron, who made this movie with me as producer, turned to me at some point and said, 'Let it in. Relax.' I was very tense. I'm not very good with praise." Del Toro returned to Cannes on Tuesday to screen a restoration of one of his most beloved films. Shortly beforehand, he met a reporter for an interview at a hotel on the Croisette, a few steps away from where his filmmaking life changed two decades ago. A lush fairy tale set against 1944 Francoist Spain, "Pan's Labyrinth" is about the young Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) who has come with her mother to stay with her new fascist stepfather, Captain Vidal (Sergi López). Taking place largely in the northern Spain, it's Del Toro at his earthiest and most imaginative. Books become alive when held. Doors manifest out of a chalk outline. And creatures — fairies, a faun, the unforgettable Pale Man, with eyes in the palms of his hands — reveal a world of deeper and darker enchantment. A pivot point for del Toro Del Toro, who has since made "The Shape of Water" and "Frankenstein," grants that he wouldn't have become the filmmaker he is today if he hadn't made "Pan's Labyrinth."
