    LOS ANGELES --

Stranger Things (Netflix) and Westworld (HBO) made major strides on the second and concluding night of this weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys, each topping five categories on Sunday (9/10) during a gala ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. This put the two shows in a tie with Saturday Night Live which also currently sports a total of five Emmys, having won three the night before and two more this evening.

Stranger Things won for best single-camera picture editing for a drama series, original main title design, original main title theme music, outstanding sound editing for a series, and best casting for a drama series. The latter often bodes well for program win prospects at the televised Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, which takes place next Sunday (9/17), also at the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live.

Westworld meanwhile picked up wins for visual effects, sound mixing, interactive programming, hairstyling and makeup.

SNL’s two Emmy wins this evening were for David Chappelle as guest host, and Melissa McCarthy for her guest appearances in character as former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Also making major headway on night two of the Creative Arts Emmys was The Night Of (HBO) which took four honors. The Night Of scored in the cinematography, editing, sound mixing and sound editing categories. Fred Elmes, ASC, topped the best cinematography for a limited series or movie for the “Ordinary Death” episode of The Night Of.  Editor Jay Cassidy, ACE, and Nick Houy (additional editor) won for The Night Of’s “The Beach” episode. In their Emmy acceptance remarks, Elmes and Cassidy (who’s a three-time Best Editing Oscar nominee for Into the Wild, then Silver Linings Playbook in tandem with Crispin Struthers and American Hustle with Struthers and Alan Baumgarten) both thanked Steven Zaillian, director, writer and co-creator of The Night Of. (Zaillian is a four-time Oscar nominee for his writing, including for the Schindler’s List screenplay.)

Veep (HBO) garnered three Emmys–for best casting for a comedy series (also often a harbinger of success on televised Primetime Emmys night), production design and cinematography for a single-camera half-hour series (DP David Miller, ASC won in this brand new competition category).

Big Little Lies (HBO) scored three Emmys for Casting for a Limited Series, Movie or Special, contemporary costumes and music supervision. The latter is a new category, with music supervisor Susan Jacobs getting the win.

Also taking home three Emmys on Sunday was The Handmaid’s Tale–for cinematography (Colin Watkinson, ASC), guest actress (Alexis Bledel for her portrayal of Ofglen), and production design for a one-hour or more narrative contemporary or fantasy program (production designer Julie Berghoff, art director Evan Weber, set decorator Sophie Neudorfer).

It was a night for breaking new ground. Not only did Jacobs and Miller score in first-time Emmy categories but a VR project nabbed a Creative Arts Emmy as Felix & Paul Studios topped the best original interactive program category for the Samsung/Oculus project The People’s House-Inside The White House With Barack and Michele Obama.

Winning the primetime commercial Emmy Award was Squarespace’s “Calling JohnMalkovich.com” directed by Miles Jay of Smuggler for NY agency JohnXHannes.

Creative Arts Emmy weekend yielded the following tally for projects collecting more than one win: SNL, Stranger Things and Westworld with five Emmys apiece; 13th, Samurai Jack and The Night Of with four each; Big Little Lies, Hairspray Live!, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Handmaid’s Tale and Veep with three Emmys apiece; and Born This Way, Dancing With The Stars, FEUD: Bette and Joan, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, O.J.: Made In America, Planet Earth II, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week–The Touring Years, and The Crown with two wins each.

The network countdown finds HBO with 19 Emmy Awards thus far, followed by Netflix with 16, NBC with nine, ABC with seven, FOX and Hulu with five each, Adult Swim, CBS and FX Networks with four apiece, A&E and VH1 with three each, Amazon, BBC America, ESPN and National Geographic with two apiece, and single wins for AMC, Cartoon Network, CNN, Comedy Central, Disney XD, Samsung/Oculus, Showtime, TBS, Viceland and Vimeo.

Picture North Signs Director Kevin Oh For Commercials and Branded Content

    Monday, April 20, 2026

Picture North has added director Kevin Oh to its roster of talent for U.S. representation spanning commercials and branded content. Prior to joining Picture North, he had most recently been freelancing.

An observational director known for his detailed composition and narrative timing, Oh has become known for work that is grounded in real moments and subtle performances that drive every film forward.

Originally a physics instructor, the pull towards storytelling brought Oh to the world of advertising and with it, the opportunity to direct. He has directed commercials for brands including Adidas, Coca-Cola, Disney, FIFA, Google, Nike, Jack Daniels, and a Puma campaign starring Rosé from Blackpink. A well-rounded filmmaker, Oh is also an accomplished DP and photographer, allowing him to step into many roles on a project and meaningfully collaborate with nearly every department.

“To be honest, joining Picture North felt like a natural alignment more than a decision,” said Oh. “I tend to put a lot of weight into the details and the relationships behind the work. And since this is something I plan on doing for the rest of my life, that foundation was extremely important to me. There’s a level of care, accountability, and precision at Picture North that I really value. It feels like the kind of partnership where we can build something meaningful and hold each other to a higher standard with every step forward we take together. I’m excited where this path leads both of us.”

Martin Rodahl, executive producer and founder of Picture North, added, “Kevin is a multiple threat signing! He’s obviously a very accomplished motion director, but his still photography portfolio makes him even more competitive. His background in advertising... Read More
