The Sweetshop USA Merges With Interrogate

    LOS ANGELES --

A new chapter begins for The Sweetshop USA as production company Interrogate officially merges with The Sweetshop Global, uniting two creative forces under one brand.

The merger marks a major step in The Sweetshop’s evolution, expanding its global network and strengthening its position in North America. Interrogate’s founding partners are no strangers to Sweetshop, with Jeff Miller and George Meeker holding the joint title of co-managing director and executive producer for The Sweetshop US since its conception in 2019.

“George and Jeff have been such an important part of the Sweetshop family since 2019. Over the years we’ve built a relationship grounded in trust, integrity, and a genuine love for the craft of filmmaking. Partnerships like this are very special and we feel very lucky to have found that with them,” said Melanie Bridge, CEO of The Sweetshop. “They’re not only an incredibly smart duo, but also deeply respected and well loved across our global team and director roster. With the extraordinary group of directors they’ve built at Interrogate now coming into the fold, our roster becomes even stronger, making this a real double win for all of us.”

Meeker, co-managing director and executive producer at The Sweetshop USA, noted, “From day one, our relationship with The Sweetshop has been built on a shared belief in the power of craft and creative ambition. Bringing Interrogate fully into the fold is a natural evolution of that partnership. It allows us to scale what we’ve built, collaborate more deeply across a truly global network, and continue delivering the kind of bold, innovative work our clients and directors expect.”

The merger also brings fresh creative energy to an already stacked roster. Among the directors joining the fold are names like Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), Daniel Sackheim (X-Files, Game Of Thrones, Law & Order, ER), Bart Timmer (Heineken, VW’s “Laughing Horses,” Centraal Beheer‘s “Acupuncture”), and Ole Peters (Audi, BMW’s “The 7,” Mercedes-Benz), to name just a few.

Miller, co-managing director and EP at The Sweetshop USA, said, “At the core of this has always been a commitment to our directors and the work. This merger gives them access to a global platform while preserving the close, collaborative environment we’ve built–bringing together world-class talent, emerging technology, and new storytelling in a way that’s seamless for our clients and inspiring for the work.”

Notably, Miller and Meeker recently led production on the award winning, groundbreaking film, Submerged, for Apple’s Vision Pro. The first-ever scripted immersive film, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Edward Berger, earned industry recognition and global attention for its innovation and craft, further showcasing the duo’s breadth of capabilities.

For Meeker and Miller, this merger opens a world of new opportunities, connecting them to Sweetshop’s global family of creatives and offering full access to The Gardening.club, Sweetshop’s AI-powered storytelling division at the intersection of technology and imagination.

For clients, it means more creative firepower and richer resources, without losing the trusted relationships and familiar faces they already know. Interrogate clients will continue working with their existing roster of directors, alongside Sweetshop’s local and global talent across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the U.K., and beyond.

Jane Schoenbrun Jolts Cannes With Queer Slasher Movie “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma”

    Friday, May 15, 2026

"A good electric chair" is how Jane Schoenbrun describes their first Cannes Film Festival premiere.

"I really felt like my body was in a state of convulsion," says Schoenbrun.

The day after the premiere of "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma," a bold, bloody queer slasher film starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, Schoenbrun and their co-stars were still buzzing from the ecstatic response. The movie, one of the most prominent American films in Cannes this year, gave the festival a gonzo jolt.

For Schoenbrun, the leading trans filmmaker of their generation, the film extends their intensely personal exploration of gender and the movies that defined their youth. But their first two films — 2024's "I Saw the TV Glow" and 2021's "We're All Going to the World's Fair" — were the raw, burning products of Schoenbrun's transition. "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma," drawn from Schoenbrun's happy, exploratory post-transition life, isn't that.

It's about desire and sex. It's a biting satire of reboot-mad Hollywood. It's a schlocky and subversive slasher movie homage. It's a lot of fun, and quite tender, even when bodies are blood-spurting geysers.

"This is the first movie that feels like it represents the fullness of who I am," Schoenbrun says.

But Wednesday's moment of triumph in Cannes was hard-won. Ten years ago, Schoenbrun, now 39, was working in the film industry in a job they hated.

"The first time I came here, I just felt like, 'Oh my, god. I can't believe I'm in Cannes.' I went to, like, 'The Lobster,' at the Palais in my boy tux. I was like: 'This is it. I've done it,'" says Schoenbrun. "Then the next year I came back and I was so depressed. I decided to quit my job. If I'm depressed at Cannes,... Read More
