May 24, 2014    The Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or was bestowed upon Winter Sleep, an intimate, wintry epic set on Turkey’s Anatolian steppe. And winning best director distinction was Bennett Miller for Foxcatcher, starring Channing Tatum, Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo......Gordon Willis, ASC, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated and influential cinematographers, died on May 18 at the age of 82. During a remarkable run from 1971 to 1977, films he worked on won 19 Oscars and were nominated 39 times, from best picture for The Godfather and Annie Hall to acting for Jane Fonda in Klute and John Houseman in The Paper Chase. Yet Willis never won a competitive Oscar and was nominated just twice, for Woody Allen’s Zelig and for Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, Part III, which came out in 1990. The academy presented him an honorary Oscar in 2009, noting “his willingness to fly in the face of convention”....The Corner Shop, the production house formed by producer Anna Hashmi and director Peter Thwaites, has added director Wilfrid Brimo to its roster for U.S. representation. Brimo continues to be handled by Wanda Productions in France. He was last represented stateside by Paranoid. Over the years, Brimo’s work has garnered Gold and Silver Lions at Cannes, multiple Clios and a White Pencil at the D&AD’s. His last spot for Mercedes-Benz won the Grand Prix at the Cristal Festival.... Marisa Fiechter has joined Psyop’s NY office as executive producer. She had most recently been at MPC. Fiechter got her start at agency Hill Holliday before joining Trollback+Company in 2005. She later spent a year at Google Creative Lab prior to coming aboard MPC....Figliulo&Partners has hired Jon Randazzo as creative director. He is responsible for leading all of Figliulo&Partners’ creative activity for the Sprint business and is located in the agency’s New York office. Randazzo most recently worked as creative director for Goodby Silverstein and Partners. He has many accolades including Cannes Lions, Effies and The Yahoo! Big Idea Chair Award....

May 22, 2009     Kim Gehrig and Ross Katz were among the up-and-coming helmers who made the cut for the 7th annual SHOOT New Directors Showcase. The Showcase reel will have its debut screening at the DGA Theatre in NYC....Editors Angus Wall and Terence “Biff” Butler of Rock Paper Scissors and Maury Loeb of P.S. 260 were the big individual winners, each garnering a pair of honors during the 8th annual AICE Awards Show gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel...Great Guns has signed director Enda McCallion for spots globally. He was formerly handled by Epoch Films for ad projects in the U.S. and U.K.....Feature filmmaker George Tillman, Jr. (Soul Food, Men of Honor) has garnered his first representation in the ad arena, joining the roster of production company Story, with offices in Chicago and on both coasts....Editor Jinx Godfrey of Marshall Street Editors, London, will be repped in the U.S. by bicoastal editorial house Union. Godfrey had previously been handled by FilmCore. Marshall Street Editors and Union have entered into a reciprocal relationship whereby one will house the other when jobs come up for either on opposite sides of the Atlantic....Directorial duo The Goetz Bros. has joined Detour Films for spot representation in the U.S. The helming team had formerly been on the roster at Crossroads....Director Enno Jacobsen has joined The Joneses for exclusive representation in commercials....
