Drew Donatelle joins Havas Worldwide Chicago as ECD

Drew Donatelle has been named executive creative director at Havas Worldwide Chicago. He comes over from Twitter where he was sr. brand strategist on the auto, dining and retail verticals.

Donatelle earlier was VP, creative director at DraftFCB, working on integrated campaigns for Jack Daniels, Motorola and Nokia, in addition to driving new business efforts. He was also a key member of Draft’s Concepting Group, a thought laboratory where he honed his approach to idea-centric creative expressed at the right consumer touch points. Before that, he held the position of SVP, creative director at Upshot, a boutique agency focused on Millennials, where he led creative on marquee brands including Absolut, Microsoft, Mirage Resorts and Sony.

Donatelle’s noteworthy campaigns include a Valspar art poster series that earned recognition at the One Show, Communication Arts and D&AD; the creation of whimsical animated characters for Valspar (Effie winner) and Sharpie; and a humorous integrated campaign for A1 starring 70s rock icon, Meatloaf.

Åsa Lucander joins Aardman’s directorial roster in U.K.

Aardman has signed Finnish 2D director, illustrator and animator Åsa Lucander for work in the UK. 

With 10 years of industry experience working in illustration, animation and graphic design both in the U.K. and Scandinavia, Lucander has a passion for hand rendered drawings and exploring textures and mediums. She has directed commercials for TV and online, with recent clients including British Gas, Channel 4, Virgin Media and Radio 4. She has also worked with BBC’s popular Science Club, as well as directed multiple short films. Her latest short, Lost Property, is currently on the festival circuit.

Zambezi adds ECD DiMarcantonio, chief strategy officer Jenkins

Josh DiMarcantonio and Kristina Jenkins have joined Zambezi as executive creative director and chief strategy officer, respectively.

Most recently creative director at 180LA, DiMarcantonio has held CD roles at Deutsch, CAA and W+K. He has created branded entertainment, intellectual property and marketing platforms for global clients such as Adidas, Nike, Brand Jordan, ESPN, Taco Bell, Planters as well as non-profit organizations like the HIV/AIDS relief foundation, and Keep A Child Alive. His work has garnered Cannes Lions (seven Lions for Taco Bell alone in 2014), One Show Pencils, Addys, D&AD, CA, and Clio honors.

Jenkins, who takes on the newly created role of chief strategy officer at Zambezi, spent eight years at mcgarrybowen, most recently serving as culture intelligence officer. Cultural planning is a strategic capability dedicated to helping clients across the global agency network dig into unexpected places in culture while bringing forth provocative thinking.

During her time with mcgarrybowen, Jenkins led the development of cultural truths, consumer insights and communication strategies for Verizon Innovations, Disney, 7UP, Canada Dry, Sunkist, Kraft, Mondeléz and Reebok. She was instrumental in the Honda Europe CR-V, United, Sears and Reebok new business wins.  She headed up all trend intelligence for the agency, including Millennial themed-content. She also designed proprietary strategic tools to help clients problem solve.

Tim Blett named EVP, managing director of INNOCEAN USA

Tim Blett, former CEO and founder of marketing services agency eMaxx Partners, and president-partner at Doner, has joined INNOCEAN USA as EVP, managing director. In this newly created role, Blett will be charged with driving leading-edge thinking across all agency disciplines including creative, planning, account service and media. In addition, he will act as the architect of INNOCEAN’s continued agency growth and the shop’s client relationships. Blett will report to INNOCEAN USA’s CEO, Tony Kim.

Blett’s marketing expertise has encompassed everything from helping start ups at launch, new product introductions, brand repositioning projects and working with regional franchise groups. Spending over two decades at Doner, he helped the agency grow its North American network of offices and served as the leader of the Mazda business whose global branding effort (Zoom-Zoom) helped to reposition and rebuild the brand. In addition, his leadership skills inspired some of the Doner team’s most impactful work on brands including Avery, Black & Decker, Del Taco, PacSun and United Healthcare.

Jill Frank joins Epsilon as sr. content producer

Jill Frank has become the first ever sr. content producer at Epsilon, which is known to many people as a data management company. At her new roost, she will report to chief creative officer John Immesoete (whose ad pedigree includes DDB and Leo Burnett).

Based in Chicago, Frank will produce all digital content, TV commercials, pitch reels and other fare for the agency. Her hire marks another step in Epsilon’s evolution to a marketing services company turning out creative product this is data driven.

“Jill is not a typical agency producer,” said Immesoete. “She sees and understands the benefit of content delivered to data-specified audiences, which is the future of advertising.”

Frank joins Epsilon from Harpo Productions where she worked since 2005 as a TV producer, creating on and off-air promos, integrated marketing and branded entertainment content for OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network and before that for The Dr. Oz Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Frank started her career in front of the camera as a news anchor/field producer for a local TV station in Malibu. She was also an assignment editor/producer at MTV before moving to public relations and then on to Harpo.

She also writes and produces comedy for the stage and screen, and has been featured on secondcitynetwork.com. In 2013, Frank graduated from The Second City Training Center’s comedy writing program.

Art director Dan Shearin joins Young & Laramore

Ad agency Young & Laramore has hired Dan Shearin as art director. At Y&L, he will work on the KraftMaid Cabinets account and report to creative directors Bryan Judkins and Trevor Williams.

Shearin was previously an art director at Bradley and Montgomery. His clients have included Microsoft, Chase Bank, Chase Private Client, JP Morgan, Internet Explorer, Windows, Outlook.com, OneDrive, OneNote, Angie’s List, Delta Faucet, and Kimball Office.

His hiring comes on the heels of a series of promotions and new hires at Y&L--Brad Bobenmoyer added VP, marketing to his account director title, and writer Deidre Lichty, production manager Lynn Kendall and account manager Sarah Scranton recently joined the agency.

Suzanne Hargrove joins PRETTYBIRD as EP

Suzanne Hargrove has come aboard PRETTYBIRD as an executive producer for traditional and new media projects. She was most recently EP at Bandito Brothers where she oversaw the commercial division and also produced longer format material that includes the Pennzoil-sponsored documentary “Breaking Barriers: Mankind’s Pursuit of Speed,” the TV doc “Shaun White: Russia Calling,” and web series work on “Mortal Kombat” and “Chop Shop.”

Hargrove also directed and co-produced with her partner Mary Ellen Duggan a short documentary titled “Olla Rae” which follows a woman who runs a soup kitchen in Louisiana.

Hargrove worked extensively as a producer before taking on EP duties. She said of her former roost, “Bandito Brothers will always hold a very special place in my heart because of the diversity of their work. I had opportunities there that I would never have had in most traditional production companies.

“There are only a handful of companies capable of doing what PRETTYBIRD does, and that’s what drew me here,” she continued. “I’ve known Kerstin [Emhoff Co-Founder/EP] for many years and look forward to working with her, Ali [Brown VP/EP] and the whole group.

Emhoff stated, “Suzanne and I have worked together for almost 17 years, and she has always been part of our family,” adds Kerstin Emhoff. “More importantly her creativity as a producer and experience in long format, action oriented and experiential work is really what I felt would be a big asset to us at this stage of our company’s growth. She also has strong relationships with many of our directors here, and we look forward to developing new talent with her.”

Hargrove arrives on the heels of PRETTYBIRD collecting a host of awards at D&AD 2015. Awards include Direction in Music Videos for DANIELS, Next Director Award for Vania Heymann, Graphic Design for Jesse Kanda, and Branded Film Content & Entertainment Award for Tim & Eric.  PRETTYBIRD walked away from the D&AD with Bronze Prize honors for the year’s most awarded production company.

Toby Southgate promoted to worldwide CEO of Brand Union

Brand Union, WPP’s global brand strategy and design agency, has promoted Toby Southgate to worldwide CEO, effective July 1. Southgate will manage the growth of the global network while continuing his responsibilities in the Americas as CEO of Brand Union Americas. He will remain based in New York and will report to Simon Bolton, group CEO of Brand Union and FITCH, the global retail design agency.

In his new role, Southgate will be responsible for leading the growth of Brand Union across each of its 24 markets. He will manage all of Brand Union’s international teams and lead collaboration with other WPP agencies, delivering on the group’s ‘horizontality’ strategy.

Southgate brings extensive Brand Union experience to this role, having joined the agency in 2008. He has held a number of roles including managing director of Brand Union Middle East, CEO of Brand Union UK and most recently, CEO Americas. In his latest role, Southgate helped grow the agency’s footprint leading the acquisition of Epigram, a Brazilian brand and communications agency, in 2014.

Southgate has been a key player in the agency’s business development over the last seven years, bringing in major clients like The Coca-Cola Company, Vodafone, Shazam, GlaxoSmithKline and CBRE.

Ross Hopman named EP/head of commercial music production at duotone

Ross Hopman has joined music house duotone audio group as executive producer/head of commercial music production. He comes over after eight years at JSM where he produced music for such brands as Google, Gillette, Major League Baseball, Coke, Hershey’s and Comcast. Projects he’s worked on have garnered honors from the AMP Awards, AICP Show and the AICE Awards, among other competitions.

Bryan Tilson named managing director of Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai

Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai has appointed Bryan Tilson as its managing director. He will partner with executive creative director Yang Yeo to oversee the business and overall performance of W+K Shanghai.

Tilson has an upstanding history with W+K.  Before moving to W+K Shanghai in 2011 as business director on Nike China, Tilson had joined W+K Portland in 2008 as an account supervisor on American retailer Target. As a business director on Nike China for the past three and a half years, Tilson has led a diverse team of both local and expat talent to create world-class creative work for Nike, including the award-winning “Find Your Greatness” Chinese social media campaign. He has continued to successfully collaborate across the W+K network and to develop strong relationships with senior leadership at Nike China.
