Beauty editor Garrett Tezanos joins Uppercut

NEW YORK -- 

Creative postproduction shop Uppercut has added beauty editor Garrett Tezanos to its roster. Tezanos has nearly two decades of experience as an editor, with a natural eye for striking visuals and exquisite composition, as seen in his beauty and fashion work for such brands as Shiseido, Victoria’s Secret, Calvin Klein, Neutrogena, Bare Minerals, Christian Louboutin and Aveeno. He has worked alongside such directors as Michael Bay, Bryan Buckley and Steven Klein. 

Prior to joining Uppercut, Tezanos was freelancing. Earlier he was with Moondog Editorial. 

Outside of commercials, Tezanos has also cut music videos and films, including the 2015 feature A Rising Tide, which is currently available for streaming on Showtime. 

Tezanos’ hire comes on the heels of Uppercut’s recent partnership with bicoastal VFX shop ZERO. The partnership allows the shops to offer comprehensive postproduction services across editorial, animation, CG, VFX and finishing and will encompass three markets, including offices in New York City, Los Angeles and Boston.

Colorist Jeremy Sawyer joins Company 3

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- 

Company 3 has added Jeremy Sawyer (Hulu’s The First; I’m Dying up Here for Showtime) to its roster of colorists, signaling the company’s rapidly expanding slate of TV projects. Company 3 has more than 20 television series currently in the facility, including such major shows as Lost in Space (Netflix), Insecure, (HBO) and Jack Ryan (Amazon).

Sawyer, who has distinguished himself on a significant number of major series, including The Walking Dead (AMC) and The Affair (Showtime), brings a refined sensibility and deeply-entrenched understanding of the TV post workflow to Company 3’s rapidly growing TV department.

The move is something  of a homecoming for Sawyer. As an assistant and then colorist at Company 3, he learned a great deal of his craft from CEO/founder Stefan Sonnenfeld. Sawyer returns to the company following a successful tenure at Light Iron and before that, MTI. Prior to his initial stint at Company 3, Sawyer worked at the now defunct Syndicate. He started his career in postproduction at Finish Post in his native Boston. 

Sonnenfeld said of Sawyer, “He is an excellent artist and he has a keen understanding of the unique challenges involved in coloring episodic programming. He’s a perfect addition to our team, especially as demand for top-notch TV post continues to explode.”

Sawyer will continue his work on the third season of Netflix series, Easy, for which he’s colored every episode to date.

Creative director Jonathan Williams joins The Brandon Agency

The Brandon Agency, a 100-plus person shop with hubs in Charleston, Charlotte and Myrtle Beach, has added creative director Jonathan Williams to its ranks. Having previously served in a similar capacity at Tayloe/Gray, Williams will help guide all things branding-related at The Brandon Agency which is known for its work with both global and regional clients alike, from Green Giant to Fish Hippie.

Williams earlier served as brand manager at Reeds Jewelers and as an art director at McKinney. He received his bachelor’s in Fine Arts from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Caroline Garrett named head of VFX at Cinesite London

LONDON -- 

Cinesite has promoted Caroline Garrett to head of VFX at its London studio. She had most recently served as head of production at the VFX facility.

Garrett in her new role will report directly to Cinesite group CEO Antony Hunt. She will work with her global counterparts at Cinesite Montreal, Cinesite Vancouver and partner facilities Image Engine and TRIXTER to increase Cinesite’s global capacity for feature films, broadcast and streamers. With 20 years’ industry experience and her own background as an animator and CG artist, Garrett intimately understands the unique rigors that artists face while solving technical and creative challenges.

Since joining Cinesite in 2009, Garrett has strengthened her reputation as a grounded and technically astute senior production executive working on a wide variety of high caliber features, from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to Skyfall, World War Z, the multi-award-winning The Revenant, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and most recently Avengers Infinity War.

She has an extensive background in visual effects and brings two decades of experience and production know-how to the role. Caroline started her career back in 1998 as an artist at the Magic Camera Company in Shepperton Film Studios. In 2002 she co-founded the previsualization company, Fuzzygoat Ltd, working closely with directors at the start of the creative process. In 2009 she joined Cinesite, taking on the position of CG manager and overseeing the management of the 3D department as well as serving as both producer and executive producer. She later became head of production in London.

Garrett is the second woman to be appointed to a head of studio role within the Cinesite group following Tara Kemes’ appointment as general manager of Cinesite’s Vancouver animation studio earlier this year.

Bindery adds Nata Andresen, Jen Gothard to head new business, postproduction

Independent production studio Bindery has hired Nata Andresen as its head of business development, and Jen Gothard as head of postproduction.

Prior to Bindery, Andresen repped a veritable who’s who of directors, holding sales and rep roles at RSA Films, Simpatico, Taylor James, and Roxanneandco.

Gothard comes over from Beast Editorial where she served in both the Austin and NYC offices, producing campaigns for Progressive, BMW, Exxon, M&Ms, and Revlon.

“Bindery has done an incredible job of marrying production with post to provide a seamless experience for its clients. They have all the right pieces and I’m looking forward to helping them define and scale a more modern approach,” said Gothard.

Andresen added, “I strongly believe that our industry needs more diversity and gender equality, and I was excited to see that Bindery is at the forefront of that conversation and walking the walk. Bindery is majority female and there’s a real dedication to cultivating diverse perspectives across their roster of talent.”

Working with both brands and agencies, Bindery weaves a thread through all aspects of making--from development to production to post. They collaborate with the likes of Apple, Nike, Google, Uber, Sony, West Elm, and L’Oreal, as well as develop original content. Their most recent film, the documentary short Zion--directed by Floyd Russ whose commercial/branded content home is Tool of North America--premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Netflix.

Creative director/director Sean Martin joins Gentleman Scholar

Bicoastal production company Gentleman Scholar has added creative director/director Sean Martin to its roster.

Originally from Rochester, NY, Martin has spent the past eight years at Psyop. Named a director there in 2016, his journey with the company began with a design internship, following his studies at The University of Denver and Full Sail University. Beginning in design, he moved on through 2D, 3D and compositing to eventually become a director.

Martin has directed spots for such brands as Apple, Google, Honda, Samsung, Tiffany and Xbox.

De Biaggi named sr. EP at MPC NY; Lupo joins as managing director

MPC, the Academy Award-winning visual effects and creative studio known for its work in advertising and feature films, has named Camila De Biaggi as sr. executive producer in New York and brought Angela Lupo on board as managing director.

Lupo joins MPC NY from Method Studios where she was VP, executive producer. Lupo brings a wealth of experience gained from working in the industry for two decades at both Company3 and Method, along with an impressive understanding of the New York creative scene. 

De Biaggi, who has been at MPC for over five years, has established and grown the creative reputation and profile of MPC NY. De Biaggi will now be focusing on the studio’s creative projects, client relationship management and sales.

McCann NY appoints Colm Murphy as chief strategy officer

Colm Murphy has been appointed chief strategy officer at McCann New York. Murphy was most recently co-head of strategy at Droga5, where he built and led the flagship Chase account and helped the agency develop its strategic approach across the total brand experience beyond communications.

Deutsch LA elevates Kelsey Hodgkin to head of strategy

Kelsey Hodgkin has been elevated to head of strategy at Deutsch LA.

Kim Getty, president of Deutsch’s Los Angeles office, said of Hodgkin, “She brings cultural intelligence to every project she touches and has been an instrumental part of our strategy department for years.”

Hodgkin joined Deutsch in 2014 as EVP, group strategy director, leading strategy work for marquee clients across the agency’s Los Angeles roster. Most recently, she’s spearheaded strategic work for Target’s Back to School and licensing efforts, Tarana Burke’s #MeToo movement and Tile’s first advertising campaign which won two Bronze Lions at Cannes.

“What gets me most excited about this next chapter and about all the possibilities that lie ahead is the brilliant team,” says Hodgkin. “It is a privilege to have the opportunity to lead them with all their diverse and wonderful thinking.”

Hodgkin has more than 15 years of strategy experience. She has worked in three different countries and four different cities at global agencies including BBH, Ponce Buenos Aires, Modernista! and Mullen before arriving at Deutsch. Hodgkin has developed strategies for brands such as Diet Coke, Tesco, British Airways, Google, Amazon, Adidas, and Toms.

Born and raised in London, Hodgkin graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a master’s degree in history.

Encore Hollywood adds colorist Chlebak, promotes Fontaine to director of production

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- 

Encore, a Deluxe company, has added colorist Andrea Chlebak to its talent roster, and promoted veteran post producer Genevieve Fontaine to director of production. Chlebak brings a multidisciplinary background in feature films, docu-series and commercials across a range of aesthetics. Fontaine has been an integral post producer since joining the Encore team in early 2010.

Chlebak’s credits include award-winning indies “Mandy” and “Prospect,” Neill Blomkamp features “Elysium” and “Chappie,” and animated adaptation “Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet.” Having worked primarily in the digital landscape, her experience as an artist, still photographer, film technician, editor and compositor is evident in both her work and how she’s able to streamline communication with directors and cinematographers in delivering their vision. Prior to joining Encore, Chlebak was with Umedia VFX & Finishing in Vancouver.

In her new role, Fontaine’s responsibilities shift toward ensuring organized, efficient and future-proof workflows. Fontaine began her career as a telecine and dailies producer at Riot before moving to Encore, where she managed post for up to 11 shows at a time, including Marvel’s “The Defenders” series for Netflix. She understands all the building blocks necessary to keep a facility running smoothly and has been instrumental in establishing Encore as a leader in advanced formats, helping coordinate 4K, HDR and IMF-based workflows.
