Work Editorial promotes Ben Jordan to partner
Ben Jordan
NEW YORK & LOS ANGELES --

Work Editorial has promoted editor Ben Jordan to shareholding partner in New York and Los Angeles, entering the ranks of fellow partners Bill Smedley, Jane Dilworth, Neil Smith, Rich Orrick and Stewart Reeves.

Jordan initiated his editing career as a runner at Whitehouse Post at just 17. Curious about the cutting room, he climbed his way up to assistant editor, working alongside Smith, Orrick and Dilworth--eventually leaving with them to join Smedley and help found Work.

One of just two assistant editors at Work during its beginnings in London, in only a few years Jordan was cutting for the moment’s upcoming filmmakers, including Ted Lasso director M.J. Delaney and Giorgio Bruni. Jordan was promoted to editor after working with Orrick on Nike’s famed “Write The Future” World Cup commercial directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, which won the first Grand Prix Film Crafts Lions for Editing.

Since moving to New York in 2014, Jordan has helped Work become a destination edit house, launching his U.S. career with a commercial for adidas and a Super Bowl spot for Pepsi. There, he has also developed a prolific creative relationship with director Miles Jay, with whom he has built a body of work for the likes of Volvo, Facebook and Delta.

Dilworth, founding partner at Work Editorial, commented, “Having Ben join us as a partner is an absolute joy, as he’s an incredible, fair minded talent and wonderful contributor. Over our 20 years together, Work has been through many changes, and we are all the stronger for having him alongside. It is also the way things should be--Ben is as much a part of Work as I am, and for him to have shares is the right order of things. We all feel very lucky.”

Jordan added, “I’m honored and excited to take on the role of shareholding partner in this incredible editing company. From my early days as an assistant in London to becoming an editor in New York, this journey has been nothing short of amazing. I feel incredibly proud to have joined an exceptional group of partners who have believed and supported me in my career from the beginning. I couldn’t be happier to be a partner at Work Editorial, and I look forward to journey that lies ahead.”

LOS ANGELES --

Visual effects and color studio JAMM has added colorists Beau Leon and Jess Jinx (née Vile) to its roster.

Leon began working with JAMM earlier this year and has a track record of collaborating with leading DPs and directors. His body of work crosses commercials, feature films, documentaries and music videos. He launched his career with the iconic R.E.M. music video “Losing My Religion,” and has subsequently worked with assorted high-profile artists, filmmakers and brands. He is the first non-director to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the MVPA.

Jinx ventured to the U.S. after 10 years working with Framestore in the U.K. As a colorist across the pond, she brings with her a wealth of experience working with brands such as BBC, Spotify, Jimmy Choo, Dr. Marten, Campari, and Cartier. Her body of work spans commercials, long-form music videos and episodic productions.

Nomad adds editor Ally Gondeck to its roster
Ally Gondeck
LOS ANGELES & NEW YORK --

Editor Ally Gondeck has joined editorial and VFX company Nomad.

Coming from a musical upbringing and with a passion for sound and visuals, Gondeck has collaborated on high-profile projects for leading artists. Gondeck’s timelines have debuted videos for the likes of Ciara, Camila Cabello, Willow Smith, Yungblud, and Big Sean. Yungblud’s music video “Lowlife” earned Gondeck a shortlist slot for Kinsale’s Best New Editor award and premiered on the Times Square marquee. Gondeck’s credits also include cutting spots for such brands as Sony, Lexus, BMW, New Balance and Tommy Hilfiger.

“The art form of editing lies in finding ways to continue to embellish your own voice as well as the director’s,” shared Gondeck. “For me this happens after I get a first pass down and a piece is starting to shape as an edit rather than a scribbled down assembly. That’s where I feel creative.”

Gondeck’s first project with Nomad is the highly anticipated video for the song “Feather” by popstar and internet sensation, Sabrina Carpenter. The track has already clocked over 100 million streams and can be found trending as a viral song on TikTok. With fans and talent alike eagerly awaiting the release of visuals for this upbeat anthem, the process of bringing it to life has been equally as exciting thanks to decorated director Mia Barnes of Radical Media, and production company Freenjoy. (Barnes recently earned inclusion in SHOOT’s New Directors Showcase.)

“The first cuts of 'Feather' moved at a really fast pace,” related Gondeck. “When Mia and I were on set, I had something together by the end of the shoot day. The focus was on capturing the nuanced emotions of a glamorous popstar with darker undertones, giving it a cinematic feel rather than a typical music video. Mia’s voice is one I can deeply relate to. Our collaborations make the process all the more special, creating something both novel and unforgettable.”

Julia Williams, Nomad executive producer, commented, “Ally is a true powerhouse. With a proven track record in commercials and music videos, she seamlessly embodies our commitment to creativity. We’re excited to welcome Ally and are confident she’ll be a key player in our creative culture.”

Creative director Kevin Cabuli joins Los York
Kevin Cabuli
LOS ANGELES --

Creative studio Los York has hired creative director Kevin Cabuli.

Originally from Argentina where he worked for many years with Ponce, the Buenos Aires affiliate of MullenLowe, and Madre Buenos Aires (aka Mother), Cabuli has seen his work lionized at Cannes and gain prominence in homes across the U.S., LATAM, Asian and European markets. His body of work includes “Melting Icon,” “Pleasureverse,” “Miley’s Touch” and “Mozart by Magnum,” to name just a few for Magnum. Cabuli helped Dove adapt “Real Beauty” to gamer culture in the “Real Virtual Beauty” campaign. For Axe, among many global campaigns, Cabuli promoted vaccinations as “super hot” for guys looking to hookup, and placed pop-up “Axeination Centers” next to vaccination centers.

“Los York doesn’t fit an obvious mold, and neither do the people who make up our team. It really takes a special type of creative to fit in, and feel at home with us,” commented Scott Hidinger, executive creative director. “We searched long and hard for a talent like Kevin and I’m genuinely thrilled to have him on board. His body of work is clever, design-driven and on trend, and I can’t wait to see his brain in action. He’s a huge add.”

“I’ve been following Los York for years,” said Cabuli. “I confess, I’ve borrowed and quoted their work in my own. They are now giving me this incredible opportunity and challenge to move away from big agencies where I’ve been my entire career and go full indie, working with a small and diverse creative team, including designers, animators, VFX supervisors, creative directors and directors. I also have experience in design, art direction, photography and film directing. At Los York I hope to practice these crafts too and start getting some cool things done, which is exactly what Los York does. They get things done.”

“This is a long time coming for Los York but definitely worth the wait,” said Seth Epstein, Los York founder. “Kevin will help Los York continue to grow as a new creative and production model in the advertising industry, offering brands a small but mighty creative partner that works end to end with agility to address fast-moving consumers. Kevin is a true global nomad of the arts and creative hybrid of the highest caliber. He has something to prove and so do we. ”

At Los York Cabuli will provide leadership for the shop’s long-term relationship with Motorola, while also contributing to other brand-direction pitches and projects. Its Motorola partnership has evolved over time into a new kind of agency relationship, cheekily dubbed internally as Los Moto; a close-hold modern creative collaboration that provides end to end services for the brand from strategy through execution.
