ADG Production Design Nominees Include "Black Panther," "The Favourite," "Roma," "A Star Is Born"

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) has announced nominations for the 23rd Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, music videos and animation features. Winners will be honored at the 2019 Awards, themed “Landscape of the Imagination,” on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. 

Nominated in the Period Film category are The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, First Man and Roma.

Fantasy Film nominees are Black Panther, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, The House With a Clock In Its Walls, Mary Poppins Returns and Ready Player One.

In the running for the Contemporary Film honor at A Quiet Place, A Star is Born, Crazy Rich Asians, Mission: Impossible--Fallout and Welcome To Marwen.

On the television side, nominees in the One-Hour period or Fantasy Single-Camera Series category are A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Haunting of Hill House, The Man in the High Castle, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Westworld.

Up for One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series are Better Call Saul, Castle Rock, The Handmaid’s Tale, House of Cards and Ozark.

Nominated in the TV Movie or Limited Series category are The Alienist, American Horror Story: Apocalypse, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Maniac and Sharp Objects.

Contending in the Half-Hour Single-Camera Series category are Atlanta, GLOW, The Good Place, Homecoming and Silicon Valley.

Multi-Camera Series nominees are The Big Bang Theory, Murphy Brown, The Ranch, Sesame Street and Will & Grace.

A tie in the Short Format category resulted in an additional nominee, resulting in six contenders, including spots for Apple, Nespresso and Rolex.

Nominations were announced by Art Directors Guild president Nelson Coates, ADG, and Scott Moses, ADG, who is the awards producer.

As previously announced, Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns), Oscar®-nominated and Emmy®-winning filmmaker, producer, theater director and choreographer, will receive the prestigious ADG Cinematic Imagery Award. British production designer and set decorator Anthony Masters, nominated for an Academy Award® for the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Benjamin Carré, best known for his work on The Phantom of the Opera and The Wizard of Oz, will be inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame. Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Oscar-nominated production designer Jeannine Oppewall, sr. illustrator and production designer Ed Verreaux, scenic artist Jim Fiorito and set designer and art director William F. Matthews.
 
Final online balloting starts January 8th and ends January 31, 2019 and winners are announced at the dinner ceremony on Saturday, February 2, 2019.  ADG Awards are open only to productions when made within the U.S. by producer’s signatory to the IATSE agreement. Foreign entries are acceptable without restrictions.
