Director Benjamin Nicolas Joins Sibling Rivalry Films For Spots, Branded Content, Music Videos

Sibling Rivalry Films has added director Benjamin Nicolas to its roster for U.S. representation spanning commercials, branded content and music videos. This marks his first production house representation in the U.S. market.

Darren Foldes, managing director at Sibling Rivalry Films, said he was first drawn to Nicolas’ “Long Live Little Brats” for Montreal Children’s Hospital,” describing it as “vibrant, rambunctious, heart-wrenching and uplifting.” This in turn led Foldes to Nicolas’ other work, adding, “I simply fell in love with how palpable all of it is.”

Nicolas helmed “Long Live Little Brats”--which helped raise $2.5 million for Montreal Children’s Hospital--via production house 4Zero1 which continues to rep him in Montreal while the shop Animals handles him in Toronto. 

Nicolas joins Sibling Rivalry Films with an impressive portfolio in both film and photography. He began his creative career as a photographer. Afterward, Nicolas transitioned into cinematography, where he would participate in more than 15 feature investigative documentaries all around the world. He directed two feature documentaries for Canal+ and ARTE before his short film Le Clown De Belleville brought him to the attention of the commercialmaking industry.

His other notable work includes: the Huawei NOVA commercial; his “Blossom” and “The 3rd Woman” videos for the French fashion boutique, Oscar Carvallo; and the 17-minute short film, Wanda, which discusses the themes of adolescence, abuse and trauma.

“Throughout my entire career, authenticity is the link that bridges my diverse portfolio of work,” Nicolas said. “I’m seeking authenticity in every aspect of my relationships, and movement is my language to reach it. Movement acts as a bridge for emotions--a dialogue can lie, not a movement. It’s the most authentic language.”
