HPA Award Winners Include "Joker" For Color Grading, "Parasite" For Editing

The Hollywood Professional Association unveiled this year’s winners of the HPA Awards honoring achievements in color grading, editing, VFX and sound. The virtual awards ceremony held this evening (11/19) in Burbank saw Company 3 take two of the three color grading categories. Company 3’s colorists Jill Bogdanowicz and Tom Poole won, respectively, for the feature film "Joker" and the Ralph Lauren “Deep Blue” commercial. Topping the episodic or non-theatrical feature category was colorist Todd Bochner of Sim International for the "Watchmen" episode “It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice.”

Jinmo Yang, ACE, earned outstanding editing distinction in a feature for "Parasite" while Nena Erb, ACE won for the “Lowkey Trying” episode of the TV series "Insecure." And editor Angela Maddick of BBC Studios Natural History Unit was recognized for her work on the “Asia” episode of the nature documentary series "Seven Worlds, One Planet."

The VFX winners were the teams on the theatrical feature "The One and Only Ivan" (Walt Disney Motion Picture Production), the “Shipwrecked” episode of "Lost in Space" (Digital Domain) and the “Sink or Swim” episode of 9-1-1 (Fuse FX). Taking honors for outstanding sound were the feature "An American Pickle" and an episode of the TV series "Star Trek: Picard."

Awards were given to individuals and teams working in 11 creative craft categories, celebrating 15 years of the HPA Awards competition.

As previously announced, special awards presented at the gala included the HPA Engineering Excellence Award to EIZO for the Prominence CG3146 31.1” HDR monitor; Eluvio for Eluvio Content Fabric; Moxion for Immediates; and Carl ZEISS SBE for ZEISS eXtended Data; and the HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation to Global Citizen for "One World: Together At Home."
