Pulse Films has added James Marsh, a 2009 Best Documentary Oscar winner for Man on Wire, to its directorial roster for global representation. Marsh’s body of work spans documentary, narrative features, scripted TV and commercials.

Marsh’s Man on Wire also earned a BAFTA Award for Best British Film, an Independent Spirit Award, and a DGA Award nomination. In 2012, Marsh went on to win the DGA Award for his documentary Project Nim.

Marsh’s narrative feature, The Theory of Everything, won a Best Actor Oscar for Eddie Redmayne’s portrayal of Stephen Hawking. The critically acclaimed box office hit also in 2015 won the Best British Film BAFTA honor as well as three Golden Globe Awards.

And last year, Marsh earned a primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series on the strength of the “Art of War” episode of HBO’s The Night Of.

Marsh’s most recent film, The Mercy, with Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz, is slated for release in February. The film tells the true story of Donald Crowhust, an amateur sailor who entered the first race to circumnavigate the globe in 1968.

Marsh is currently finishing up postproduction on The King of Thieves, a film inspired by a real-life security vault robbery in London undertaken by a bunch of geriatric criminals. The film features Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay and Ray Winstone.

Alongside his big screen work, Marsh is a celebrated director of commercial campaigns for global brands including Audi, Coca Cola and BBC.

Of his new spotmaking roost, Marsh said, “Pulse is the ideal company for me.  Their diverse interests and belief in the power of the visual image reflect my own identity as a filmmaker.  It’s a company that gives filmmakers a bridge into the future of all visual storytelling.”

Davud Karbassioun, global president of commercials and branded fare for Pulse, added: “I’ve been a big fan of James’ work over the years.  He has a uniquely versatile and considered approach to storytelling across multiple formats.  He blurs the lines between fact, fiction and feeling.  His interests and experience across multiple film formats and genres plays perfectly into our model and wider ambitions.”
