Documentarian Matt Wolf Joins Epoch Films For Spot Representation
LOS ANGELES --

Bicoastal production company Epoch Films has added filmmaker Matt Wolf to its roster for commercial representation in the U.S. Wolf’s critically acclaimed and award-winning documentary films have played widely in festivals and have been distributed internationally in theaters and on television.

New York-based writer, director, and producer Wolf discovers hidden histories and brings to life unconventional visionaries in his artistically bold and emotionally resonant films. Wolf’s film Spaceship Earth explores Biosphere 2, a controversial experiment where eight people lived quarantined inside a replica of the planet. The film, which premiered at Sundance in 2020 and was released by Neon, is now streaming on Hulu. Other Wolf features include cult music doc Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell, about avant-garde cellist and disco producer Russell, and Teenage which probes the birth of modern youth culture. Wolf’s 2019 award-winning documentary Recorder, profiling activist Marion Stokes, who secretly recorded television 24 hours a day for 30 years, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and was named a top film of the year by The New Yorker.

Wolf has made numerous short films about artists and queer history, including the 2015 HBO documentary It’s Me, Hilary: The Man Who Drew Eloise, which premiered at Sundance and was executive produced by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, and Another Hayride, profiling self-help guru Louise Hay, which was released by The New York Times’ Op-Docs and PBS’ POV series. Wolf has directed films and original content for brands, including Google, Facebook, YouTube, amfAR, Apple, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Wolf had been most recently repped by C41 Media for commercials.

“Filmmaking for me is all about discovery--whether it’s an unbelievable story, fascinating characters, or paradigm-shifting ideas,” said Wolf. “I love sharing what I find, and creating high impact and moving experiences for people. My other great love in filmmaking is collaboration, and the adventures I get to go on with talented people while we learn new things. Epoch is the dream collaborator as I move into the world of advertising because they’re whip smart people with great taste, and veterans in the industry. I’m excited to join their amazing roster and to make unexpected, exciting, and inspiring work together.”

“Matt finds inspiration outside of the mainstream,” said Mindy Goldberg, founding partner at Epoch. “His films speak to outsider personalities and underrepresented communities, bringing their inspiring voices and stories to a wider audience.”

Wolf’s latest film, The Stroll, which he produced, just premiered in competition at Sundance on January 23 to widespread critical acclaim. Co-directed by Kristen Lovell and Zackary Drucker, The Stroll tells the history of New York’s Meatpacking District from the perspective of transgender sex workers who lived and worked there. The film is set to release on HBO later this year.
