Patricia Fay, who spent many years traveling the country by trains, planes snowmobiles and whatever it took as a location manager until her retirement in 2000, will receive the esteemed Trailblazer Award from the Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) at the 8th Annual LMGI Awards to be held on Saturday, October 23 at 2pm PDT in a virtual ceremony. The LMGI Trailblazer Award recognizes an individual whose efforts and innovations elevate the status of location professionals.
John Rakich, LMGI president and Awards Committee chair, said, “During her years of location scouting, Patricia was a true trailblazer, a treasured member of our location community and is well-deserving of this honor.”

"Girls Trip" producer Will Packer will produce next year's Oscars, the film academy said Tuesday.

It's the first time Packer has been selected for the gig and the third time in as many years that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and broadcaster ABC have enlisted new teams to produce the show.

"What an honor!" Packer said in a statement. "The power, the beauty, the romance of the imagery in movies has always attracted me. I'm fully embracing the challenge of bringing an ode to one of the most iconic mediums in the world to life."

As the founder and CEO of the film production company Will Packer Productions and Will Packer Media, Packer has produced or executive produced films like "Night School" and "Straight Outta Compton" as well as the television reboot of "Roots." Tom Brady wins in the television ratings, too.

NBC relentlessly promoted the Tampa Bay quarterback's return to New England, and the Bucs-Patriots game reached the biggest "Sunday Night Football" audience in years, the Nielsen company said.

The 26.7 million people who tuned in represented NBC's biggest television audience for the game since 2015. Add in people who streamed it, and the game reached 28 million, the biggest "Sunday Night Football" crowd since 2012, Nielsen said.

Despite that competition, CBS' "60 Minutes" reached 10.3 million people, its largest audience since last January. Viewership was about 12 million for the first part of the show, before the competing football game started and during the story about Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) -- 

A coalition of more than 20 environmental and climate groups launched a campaign Monday calling for a ban on fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship across the European Union, similar to bans on tobacco advertising.

More than 80 Greenpeace activists blocked the entrance to Shell's oil refinery in the Dutch port of Rotterdam to draw attention to the launch of the European Citizens' Initiative calling for the advertising ban.

The action comes less than a month before the start of the United Nations climate summit, COP26, in Glasgow. The 12-day summit aims to secure more ambitious commitments to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius, with a goal of keeping it to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.

The CEO of Ozy Media on Monday said it had been "premature" to shut down the company and that he wants to keep operating, despite a scandal-ridden week that exposed Ozy as an outlet without much of an audience.

Carlos Watson, a former former cable-news commentator and host who founded Ozy in 2013, told CNBC that he met with advertisers and investors over the weekend and that he wants Ozy to continue. 

In an emailed statement Monday, the company characterized the troubles of the past week as "a bump in the road" that it is "committed to getting past," saying "we are excited to reopen and expect to start resuming operations over the next few days." Ozy is trying to get employees to come back and said newsletters would resume this week and video production at the end of the month.

Ozy is shutting down less than a week after a New York Times column raised questions about the media organization's claims of millions of viewers and readers, while also pointing out a potential case of securities fraud.

The story triggered canceled shows, an internal investigation, investor concern and high-level departures at the company. 

An emailed statement Friday from Ozy Media's board called it a company with many "world-class journalists and experienced professionals to whom we owe tremendous gratitude." It said it was "with the heaviest of hearts that we must announce today that we are closing Ozy's doors." 

The board's statement did not give the reason for shutting down the company based in Mountain View, California. Ozy did not respond to questions about why it was shutting down now or how many employees it had.

Scarlett Johansson and the Walt Disney Co. on Thursday settled her lawsuit over the streaming release of "Black Widow," bringing a swift end to what had begun as the first major fight between a studio and star over recent changes in rollout plans for films. 

Johansson filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court two months ago, saying the streaming release of the Marvel movie breached her contract and deprived her of potential earnings.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the two sides released a joint statement in which they pledged to continue working together. 

"I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney," said Johansson, who has played Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, in nine movies going back to 2010's "Iron Man 2." "I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration."

During the sixth annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards on Sunday, Nov. 14, at BRIC in Brooklyn, NY, documentarian R.J. Cutler will receive the Pennebaker Award (formerly known as the Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award). This honor is named for Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award winner D A Pennebaker, who passed away in 2019. The award will be presented to Cutler by Pennebaker’s producing partner and wife, Chris Hegedus.
