NEW YORK (AP) --

The supersized superhero hit "Avengers: Infinity War" has crossed $2 billion in worldwide ticket sales, becoming only the fourth film to reach that rarified box-office milestone.

The Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that "Infinity War" reached the mark Monday, about seven weeks after opening. The only other movies in the $2 billion club are "Avatar," ''Titanic" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

"Infinity War" currently ranks as the fifth highest-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada with $656.1 million thus far. Its $257.7 million domestic opening weekend set a new record. The Marvel release has done just as well overseas. In China, the film's $369.7 million gross to date ranks third all-time.

An "Avengers" sequel to "Infinity War" is scheduled to be released in May of next year.

LOS ANGELES (AP) --

DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns, who co-produced "Justice League," is exiting both roles to focus on creative matters full time.

Warner Bros. executive and DC's interim head Thomas Gewecke says Monday that Johns is launching a production company to develop a "Green Lantern Corps." film and other projects in film, television and comic books.

It comes a few days after the studio said that DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson had decided not to return to her post following a two-month leave.

Johns is a longtime DC Comics writer who rose through the corporate ranks and added the president title almost two years ago. He's worked on both "Aquaman" and the "Wonder Woman" sequel and helped build DC television shows like "The Flash" and "Supergirl."

NEW YORK (AP) --

Your ability to watch and use your favorite apps and services could start to change — though not right away — following the official demise Monday of Obama-era internet protections.

Any changes are likely to happen slowly, as companies assess how much consumers will tolerate.

The repeal of "net neutrality" took effect six months after the Federal Communications Commission voted to undo the rules, which had barred broadband and cellphone companies from favoring their own services and discriminating against rivals such as Netflix.

Internet providers such as AT&T, Verizon and Comcast had to treat all traffic equally. They couldn't slow down or block websites and apps of their choosing. Nor could they charge Netflix and other video services extra to reach viewers more smoothly. The rules also barred a broadband provider from, say, slowing down Amazon's shopping site to extract business concessions.

NEW YORK (AP) --

Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning musical "In the Heights" will hit theaters in 2020 as a summer-event movie.

Warner Bros. won the rights to the 2008 Tony-winner after a bidding war earlier this spring. The project had been in development at The Weinstein Company, which auctioned off many of its assets in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Warner Bros. announced Thursday that "In the Heights" will be released June 26, 2020. Miranda is producing the film, which is to be directed by Jon M. Chu. The upcoming romantic comedy "Crazy Rich Asians" is also helmed by Chu.

"In the Heights" is about a bodega owner in New York's Washington Heights. Miranda has previously said his follow-up to "In the Heights," ''Hamilton," will be adapted into a movie but not soon.

NEW YORK (AP) --

Facebook says it will fund original news shows created by such news organizations as ABC, CNN, Fox, Univision and Mic.

The move comes as Facebook plans to kill off its "trending" news section to make way for what it considers "trustworthy" and "informative" news. Despite efforts to clamp down, the company continues to grapple with fake news and misinformation, not to mention plain old "click bait" on its users' news feeds.

Campbell Brown, Facebook's head of news partnerships, says the shows will be original and exclusive to Facebook, rather than adapting TV programs from elsewhere for a Facebook audience. The shows will appear in Facebook's Watch video section.

Brown declined to say how much Facebook is paying for the shows. They will be available in the U.S. this summer.

LOS ANGELES (AP) --

Apple is ordering a comedy-drama series from J.J. Abrams that will feature original music by Sara Bareilles.

"Little Voice" is described by Apple as a romantic tale of searching for one's true voice as a young adult.

The show received a 10-episode order, Apple said Wednesday. The cast and the release date were not announced.

Abrams, whose credits include "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Lost," will serve as executive producer for "Little Voice."

The Grammy-nominated Bareilles earned a Tony Award bid last year for her music for "Waitress."

Jessie Nelson, who collaborated with Bareilles on "Waitress," will be the show runner and an executive producer for the Apple series.

Bareilles and Josh Groban will host Sunday's Tony ceremony, airing on CBS.

Barry Jenkins
SANTA MONICA, Calif. --

Amazon Studios announced Oscar and Golden Globe Award-winner Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) will direct all 11 episodes of the highly anticipated greenlit limited series The Underground Railroad which will premiere globally on Amazon Prime Video. Based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning and bestselling novel "The Underground Railroad," which also won the National Book Award and was an Oprah Winfrey Book Club pick, the series is executive produced by Jenkins’ PASTEL and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

Jenkins commented: “Working with Amazon and a wonderful group of screenwriters to develop Colson’s novel into a limited series has been an extremely rewarding experience. Translating his singular voice into a cohesive and equally singular visual language is a task I very much look forward to.”
