A collective of over 600 Black advertising professionals has come together to demand meaningful action from industry leadership through the release of diversity data and the adoption of policy reform. For decades, Black advertising professionals have not only fought to have a voice among agency decision makers, but for the authentic representation of all cultures in the work produced on behalf of clients.

Spike Lee was just 10 when Muhammad Ali, in 1967, refused to be drafted into the Vietnam. It wasn't his fight, Ali said then. The Vietnamese "never lynched me." 
Ali's stand, and the subsequent vitriol that came his way, made an enormous impression on Lee. His latest film, "Da 5 Bloods," opens with footage of Ali's speech. 
"Everyone is all lovey-dovey with Muhammad Ali now that he's dead," says Lee. "But at one time, Muhammad Ali was the most hated man in America."

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration has added movie theaters to the list of those venues in California that can reopen--but only under certain conditions and with approval from local health authorities. Reopening could begin as soon as this Friday (6/12).

These face to face interactions helped ease our feelings of social isolation.  But lockdown wasn’t only affecting us – it was also a big adjustment for our pets.  Animal, a creative studio based in Pittsburgh, who created the ABC series Downward Dog, are particularly tuned into the feelings of their furry families.

Volkswagen's CEO is giving up managing the company's core VW brand in order to concentrate more on the group as a whole, the German automaker said Monday.
Herbert Diess, whose image had been tarnished in the fallout from the company's diesel-emissions scandal, will be replaced as head of the VW brand by Ralf Brandstaetter, who has been serving as the brand's chief operating officer, the company said in a statement.

Bonnie Pointer, a Grammy-winning founding member of the Pointer Sisters, who was essential to the group's early success but left the group before most of their biggest hits, died Monday. 
Pointer died of cardiac arrest in Los Angeles, publicist Roger Neal said. She was 69.

Due to dramatically decreased revenue during the pandemic, D&AD has as part of a survival plan significantly reduced its number of staff members and reconfigured its sr. management team.
CEO Patrick Burgoyne has unselfishly volunteered to relinquish his role and step down, according to a D&AD statement which thanked him for years of service, first as a trustee and then, since December 2019, as CEO.

Director Emilie Thalund has signed with bicoastal production company Epoch Films for representation in the U.S. spanning commercials and branded content. This marks her first career representation in the American ad market. She continues to be handled by Bacon Films in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and by Czar in the Netherlands.

He is known for his tenures as a creative partner at BBH London and as ECD at Grey London. Goldman began his career as a digital creative at Media Arts and went on to create integrated work for agencies in Asia and the US including Ogilvy and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.

After watching the ghastly video of George Floyd dying as a police officer pressed a knee on his neck, Grammy-nominated R&B singer Trey Songz couldn't sleep. He felt a pain in his gut so heavy it brought him down to his home studio, where he began recording a new song.
Though Songz said the melody and lyrics came to him quickly, his voice cracked and he couldn't sing.

This United Way New York City PSA--directed by Matt Lenski of Arts & Sciences--celebrates the city’s innate ability to retain its essence, even in the face of a global pandemic. A nightly case in point is the city’s moving 7pm tribute as New Yorkers gather on streets (at a safe distance, of course) or lean out of their windows, banging saucepans, clapping, cheering and hollering as exhausted healthcare workers make their way home after a shift.

The American Film Institute has revealed its full slate of films being presented online for the AFI DOCS 2020 festival. The lineup features 59 films from 11 countries and 12 virtual World Premieres, with 61% of the films directed by women, 25% by POC directors and 14% by LGBTQ directors.

The prospect of resuming film, TV and commercial production got a boost yesterday as Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that counties throughout California may reopen to filming as early as June 12.
The go-ahead came in the form of guidelines released by the state Department of Public Health for varied venues, including schools, day care facilities and casinos. Within those guidelines was a paragraph pertaining to film and television, which read:

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian announced his resignation from the board of the social media site and urged the board to replace him with a black candidate.
Ohanian, who is white, implicitly linked his move to protests around the globe over the killing of George Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis after a police officer pressed his knee against his neck for several minutes, even after he stopped pleading for air and became unresponsive.
