    Tod A. Maitland CAS to be honored with the Cinema Audio Society’s 2025 Career Achievement Award

    The Cinema Audio Society will honor sound mixer Tod A. Maitland CAS, with its esteemed 2025 Career Achievement Award. This recognition will be presented during the 61st Annual CAS Awards on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

    “The Career Achievement Award remains the Society’s highest honor, and we are thrilled to present it to Tod,” said CAS president Peter Kurland. “His love for and deep respect for film, combined with his impeccable artistry, make him a truly deserving recipient. Having spent much of my career in New York, I am especially excited to recognize Tod. His family has been prominent in New York sound mixing for generations, and he has beautifully carried on that tradition both in New York and beyond. Tod’s amazing work, especially in sound for music-based films, has set new standards and inspired countless peers and aspiring mixers. His work exemplifies the best in production sound mixing, taking on ever bigger challenges and creating outstanding sound.”

    “Sixteen years ago I had the honor to present my father, Dennis Maitland, with the CAS Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Maitland. “To say that I am honored to receive this same prestigious award is an understatement. The film business has been a part of my life since I was in diapers, and now, to be recognized by my mentors and peers, there is no higher honor.”

    Tod A. Maitland is a five-time Academy Award-nominated, Emmy-nominated, BAFTA-winning sound mixer with over 100 feature film credits. His impressive portfolio spans classics like “Tootsie” to modern masterpieces such as “West Side Story,” “JFK,” “Seabiscuit,” “I Am Legend,” “The Irishman,” “Joker,” the TV series “Fallout,” for which he was recently nominated for an Emmy, and the upcoming Bob Dylan film, “A Complete Unknown.” Always at the cutting edge of technology, Maitland has established himself as a pioneer in capturing sound for modern movie musicals. His journey began with “The Doors,” directed by Oliver Stone, igniting a 30-year commitment to enhancing production sound for musicals—improving sound quality, efficiency, and technology. To date, Maitland has worked on 15 music-based films.

    Beyond production sound, Maitland collaborated with Wylie Stateman and Lon Bender to create The Hollywood Edge Sound Libraries. He also serves as head of sound at NYU Tisch Grad Film School. An esteemed speaker, Maitland delivered the commencement address at his alma mater and currently consults for Shure Microphones among other ventures. He splits his time with his family between NYC and the Catskills where his hobbies include spending time with friends, writing, inventing and building things.

    Maitland joins an illustrious group of past CAS Career Achievement honorees including Joe Earle, Anna Behlmer, Willie Burton, Peter J.     Bruce Springsteen biographer and music critic Dave Marsh dies at 76

    Dave Marsh, a longtime music critic who wrote several influential books about Bruce Springsteen, including the early biography "Born to Run" has died. He was 76.

    Marsh died Friday in Connecticut, his friend Jeffrey St. Clair, a co-editor of the online magazine Counterpunch, told The Associated Press. St. Clair said Marsh had been suffering from a degenerative brain disease for several years. Jim Rotolo, the SiriusXM radio host, announced Marsh's death on his social media accounts.

    Springsteen paid tribute to Marsh in an Instagram post, writing that the loss had left the band "heartbroken."

    "My great friend Dave, with his straight out of Detroit attitude, was a true Rock 'n' Roll lifer. He was soulful, intelligent, heartfelt, opinionated, bruising and often fantastically argumentative," Springsteen wrote. "He deeply believed in what I was trying to accomplish and his lifetime of support meant the world to me."

    Steven Van Zandt also wrote a remembrance on Instagram, writing "he was fearless, relentless, arrogant, everything you'd want in a RocknRoll troublemaker. And by the way, a tremendous writer."

    Marsh was an early champion of Springsteen, writing about him for Creem magazine and penning his first Rolling Stone cover story in 1978. In 1979 his biography "Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story" was released and became a best seller. He followed it in 1986 with "Glory Days: Bruce Springsteen in the 1980s." Legend has it that he was the one responsible for getting Jon Landau, Springsteen's longtime manager and record producer, to his first Springsteen concert.
