    Academy Museum of Motion Pictures elects Anla Cheng to its Board of Trustees

    The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has announced the election of Anla Cheng to its Board of Trustees.

    As the governing body of the Academy Museum, the board leads the museum toward a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, in addition to securing adequate resources to advance the museum’s mission.

    Amy Homma, Academy Museum director and president, said of Cheng, “Her vision and dedication to the art and education of cinema will help guide the museum into an exciting, successful future.”

    Board of Trustees members as of October 24, 2025 include chair Olivier de Givenchy, vice-chair Dr. Eric Esrailian, secretary Patricia Bellinger Balzer, treasurer Jim Gianopulos, Arnaud Boetsch, Effie T. Brown (honorary trustee), Tom Dolby, Sidonie Seydoux Dumas, Sid Ganis (honorary trustee), Cindy Huang, Julia S. Gouw, Ray Halbritter, Tom Hanks, Amy Homma, Lynette Howell Taylor, Travis Knight, Simon Kilmurry, Bill Kramer, Miky Lee, Eva Longoria, Hiro Matsuoka, Ryan Murphy, Katherine L. Oliver, Alejandro Ramírez Magaña, Jason Reitman, Shira Ruderman, Ted Sarandos, Teddy Schwarzman, Regina K. Scully, Kimberly Steward, Kim Taylor-Coleman, and Kevin Yeaman.

    Cheng is the chair, founder, and CEO of Serica Initiative, LLC, which seeks to amplify AAPI Voices. Her career includes work at Goldman Sachs, as Asia Institutional Division head at Robert Fleming, and at Citi as Asian portfolio manager for both the Institutional and Private Wealth Group. Then, she founded and ran Centenium Capital Partners, an Asia Hedge Fund of Funds. Cheng received her MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of Business.

    She is the vice chair of The Nature Conservancy Asia Pacific Council and vice chair of The China Institute. She also founded and served as the CEO of SupChina and The China Project. She is a past Trustee and current member of Committee of 100; past chair of Facing History; past Global Council member of Brookings; and past member of the Columbia University Global Council, China. She is also a former Trustee of MOCA; the Riverdale Country Day School; The Browning School; and the New York Community Trust.

    The Kennedy Center looks to justify that the building needs a renovation

    The Kennedy Center's new leadership wants to prove to critics the building is damaged beyond simple repair. It's starting with Congress.

    Matt Floca, the performing arts institution's new executive director and chief operating officer, is leading a series of tours this month that show water damage and intrusion to expansion joints, marble slabs and exterior pavers. Participants are guided through the building's water and HVAC systems along with parking garages and loading docks that are said to be in need of repair.

    The sessions began earlier this month while Congress was in recess and included staff for a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the top Democrats on Capitol Hill. A representative for Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser was also included on the tour.

    Similar access has been provided for several corporate and individual donors and in the coming weeks, Floca is expected to provide tours for the lawmakers themselves and members of the media.

    Assessing a suddenly controversial operation
    Once one of Washington's relatively few apolitical spaces, the Kennedy Center has become a source of controversy during President Donald Trump's second term. Shortly after returning to office, Trump ousted the institution's previous leadership and replaced it with a handpicked board of directors.

    The president's name was added to the building's facade and its programming took a Trump-friendly turn, serving as a venue for events such as the premiere of first lady Melania Trump's documentary, "Melania."
