    Justin Pollock
    NEW YORK --

Chromista has brought Justin Pollock on board as executive producer. Pollock has produced everything from intimate documentaries and live multi-camera events to global ad campaigns for leading brands. With a deep commitment to supporting auteur directors, he has played a key role in shaping award-winning commercial films and some of advertising’s most impactful work.

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pollock began his career in New York City with VH1 and MTV, working on large-scale shows, including in-studio and live awards shows, which put him on stage with legends like The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, and Tina Turner. He later joined the launch of MSNBC as a line producer on Edgewise hosted by John Hockenberry, working alongside acclaimed director RJ Cutler. In an inspired move into commercial production, Pollock served as executive producer and managing director at Park Pictures for the past 20 years.

Pollock has forged standout partnerships with top agencies and visionary directors. His work has earned accolades from Cannes Lions, Clios, Webbys, Ciclope, AICP Awards, and more. Brand collaborations include Nike, AT&T, Verizon, U.S. Bank, Adidas, DSG, Chevy, Coca-Cola, the NBA, Meta, Google, and Apple. Recently, he teamed up with Chromista director Kasra Farahani on a range of Marvel in-universe tie-in ads, with director/photographer Mynxii White, on a short film for the Monaco Grand Prix, and on OKX’s “Mild Mild West” short film, made in partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival.

“There are so many gifted directors on the Chromista roster,” remarked Pollock. “ I’m excited to work with them and bring their vision to life. Getting to know Adina [Birnbaum], Ted [Robbins], and the rest of the Chromista family, I saw a company that is uniquely positioned in the marketplace. The work is outstanding, and they’ve cultivated long-term relationships with both clients and agencies–something that’s essential for lasting success. I love the energy everyone brings to each project and am committed to continuing to create great work together.”

Birnbaum, partner at Chromista and fellow executive producer, added, “Justin has been a formidable force in the commercial industry. A mentor and advocate to some of the most impressive directors of our time and an active champion of ethical production, serving on boards for Green The Bid, PHBP, and AICP’s Equity & Inclusion Committee. In just a few short months, he’s already made a lasting impact, bringing decades of experience and ingenuity to our every day. I am beyond excited to collaborate with Justin as Chromista ventures into new territories of creative innovation.”

Roblox steps up age checks and groups younger users into age-based chats

Roblox is stepping up its age verification system for users who want to privately message other players and implementing age-based chats so kids, teens and adults will only be able to message people around their own age.

The moves come as the popular gaming platform continues to face criticism and lawsuits over child safety and a growing number of states and countries are implementing age verification laws.

The company had previously announced the age estimation tool, which is provided by a company called Persona, in July. It requires players to take a video selfie that will be used to estimate their age. Roblox says the videos are deleted after the age check is processed. Users are not required to submit a face scan to use the platform, only if they want to chat with other users.

Roblox doesn't allow kids under 13 to chat with other users outside of games unless they have explicit parental permission — and unlike different platforms, it does not encrypt private chat conversations, so it can monitor and moderate them.

While some experts have expressed caution about the reliability of facial age estimation tools, Matt Kaufman, chief safety officer at Roblox, said that between the ages of about five to 25, the system can accurately estimate a person's age within one or two years.

"But of course, there's always people who may be well outside of a traditional bell curve. And in those cases, if you disagree with the estimate that comes back, then you can provide an ID or use parental consent in order to correct that," he said.

After users go through the age checks, they will be assigned to age groups ranging from under nine, nine to 12, 13 to 15, 16 to 17, 18 to 20 and over 21. Users will then be able to chat with their age... Read More
