    INCHEON, South Korea (AP) --

Director Bong Joon Ho smiled and waved at a waiting crowd on Sunday as he arrived home in South Korea, his first trip back since he won four Oscars for his movie "Parasite," including the award for Best Picture.

The crowd clapped and cheered as Bong walked out of the arrivals gate at Incheon International Airport.

"It's been a long journey in the United States and I'm pleased that it got wrapped up nicely," Bong said, speaking in Korean. "Now, I am happy that I can quietly return to creating, which is my main occupation."

He also joked that he would wash his hands to join the movement to defeat a new virus that has sickened tens of thousands, mostly in China.

"I'll diligently wash my hands from now on and participate in this movement to defeat coronavirus," he said. As of Sunday, South Korea had 29 confirmed cases of the new virus, which the World Health Organization has named COVID-19, referring to its origin late last year and the coronavirus that causes it.

"Parasite" was the first non-English-language film to win Best Picture in the 92-year history of the Academy Awards, and is the first South Korean movie to ever win an Oscar, stunning moviemakers and fans around the world.

Bong plans to hold a news conference with the staff and cast of "Parasite" on Wednesday in Seoul.

Church Edit adds Alex Pieterse to Next Gen roster

    Tuesday, November 11, 2025
    Alex Pieterse

Church Edit has added editor Alex Pieterse to its Next Gen roster, a talent incubator designed to support emerging artists from within and create space in the industry for fresh perspectives.

With Dutch and Spanish roots, Pieterse’s diverse perspective reflects an international upbringing and years of creative exploration across formats, with an expansive portfolio that moves fluidly between commercials, music videos, narrative, and documentary work. After getting his start in long-form storytelling as an assistant at VICE, he discovered that his passion for editing found its truest expression in short-form and soon moved into freelance work. From there, he began cutting for major brands like Adidas, ASICS, Versace, and Volkswagen.

The Pop Trading Company x Adidas “Season II” campaign marked a creative breakthrough for Pieterse, sharpening his editorial fluency through its unique blend of narrative, documentary, and branded filmmaking, and sparking his first connection with Church co-founder Mah Ferraz. The project also set in motion a long-standing creative partnership with director Fabio de Frel, with whom he’s gone on to craft standout pieces like OYSHO’s ‘A Day at the Resort,’ in which Pieterse wove six standalone films into one cohesive narrative, and ‘Feel Fast’ for Adidas, where the edit channels the rhythm and vitality of running through the streets of Cape Town.

“I am so unbelievably excited to join this wonderful, talented group of people and to bring my own unique editing voice to the table,” said Pieterse. “From the moment Church was born, I knew straight away it was something I wanted to be a part of. What it stands for, the people it represents, and the fresh energy it brings to the edit game are all... Read More
