    Stephen Schwartz, Bonnie Greenberg to receive major honors at Guild of Music Supervisors Awards

    The Guild of Music Supervisors named their top honorees for the 15th annual awards ceremony. The Icon Award will be given to Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, acclaimed for his songwriting in films such as Wicked, Godspell, Enchanted and the animated features Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Prince of Egypt. The Icon Award was created to celebrate those who have made legendary contributions to the music and film industry.

    The recipient of the Legacy Award is music supervisor Bonnie Greenberg known for her work on films like My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Mask, and The Hunting Ground. Greenberg has produced numerous Gold and Platinum albums and received various awards for her craft in music supervision. The Legacy Award is bestowed to a music supervisor who has made an impact within the industry over the course of their career.

    “The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards is a night of coming together in our community, and we need this more than ever. This year, we are thrilled to honor Stephen Schwartz and Bonnie Greenberg with our Icon and Legacy awards,” shared Guild president Lindsay Wolfington and VP Heather Guibert in a joint statement. “Their individual contributions to the craft of storytelling with music are immeasurable and have had an indelible impact on our community.”

    Schwartz has been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Awards include three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and a special Tony Award for his support of young artists.

    Greenberg has received various awards for her music supervision, including a Hollywood Music in Media Best Music Supervision award for her work on the film The Life Ahead and an NAACP Award for The Best Man. Songs and scores she has executive produced have won Emmy, NAACP, and Golden Globe awards and been nominated for Academy and Grammy awards.

    Previous recipients of the Icon Award include Robbie Robertson, Paul Williams, Diane Warren, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, Kenny Loggins and Marc Shaiman, while previous recipients of the Legacy Award include Allan Mason, Pilar McCurry, Mitchell Leib, Maureen Crowe, Bob Hunka, Joel Sill, Gary Lemel and Chris Montan.

    The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 23, at The Wiltern Theatre honoring the craft of music supervision.

    Film Independent honors this year’s Emerging Filmmaker Award winners

    Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization dedicated to fostering independence and inclusivity in visual storytelling, announced the winners of its three Emerging Filmmaker Awards on Saturday (1/10) at its annual Spirit Awards Nominee Brunch held at the London West Hollywood. Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Natasha Rothwell (White Lotus) served as hosts for the event and handed out the honors. Winners for the remaining categories will be revealed at the 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards next month.

    “Supporting independent artists and allowing them to pursue their visions without compromise is central to the mission of Film Independent, and the Emerging Filmmaker Awards have always been an essential tool towards achieving that goal,” said Brenda Robinson, acting president of Film Independent. “We are incredibly proud to be able to help elevate these artists early in what are sure to be long and esteemed careers.”

    Tatti Ribeiro, director of Valentina, received the Someone to Watch Award, which recognizes a talented first-time narrative filmmaker of singular vision who has not yet received appropriate recognition. The award, which is in its 32nd year, includes a $25,000 unrestricted grant. The finalists for the award included Neo Sora for Happyend and Annapurna Sriram for Fucktoys.

    Rajee Samarasinghe, director of Your Touch Makes Others Invisible, received the Truer Than Fiction Award, which is presented to a first-time director of non-fiction features who has not received significant recognition.
