    WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --

Creative agency The Variable has promoted Courtney Lewis from chief marketing officer to CEO, unveiling a pivotal leadership transition, and preparing for the next phase of growth.

After over a decade of leadership, agency president Jodi Heelan is stepping down to spend time with her family beginning this fall. Until then, Heelan will work closely with Lewis and the leadership team to ensure a seamless transition.

Over the past six years, Lewis has been a key member of The Variable’s leadership team as head of growth, revamping its new business strategy, reengineering pitch processes, and leading the agency to a 75% win rate in 2024 alone, securing marquee AOR and project relationships with brands including GameChange, Liquid Death, Hannaford, and Atleisure.

“Courtney has an unmatched ability to build trust with clients, sculpt business-driving strategy, and rally a team to produce work that truly moves people, and her new business success rate is proof of this,” said Heelan. “She’s a fierce and focused leader, and I couldn’t imagine anyone better to lead The Variable into its next chapter.”

“It’s an incredible honor to step into this role,” said Lewis. “At The Variable we’ve always believed that creativity when backed by clear strategy and genuine heart, can change the trajectory for brands. I’m excited to continue nurturing the culture that sets us apart, while also building a future that continues to deliver undeniable value for clients.”

Additionally Matthew Cook, currently SVP, group creative director, will take on the role of chief creative officer. Over the past 12 years at The Variable, Cook has been a vital force behind the agency’s creative work, consistently crafting award-winning campaigns for brands like NAPA, Tesla, Liquid Death and F*ck Cancer, while overseeing a talented team.

“I’ve grown alongside this agency for years, and it’s shaped me just as much as I’ve helped shape the work. Leading this team is a privilege, and I’m excited to keep building a place where bold ideas and good people thrive,” said Cook.

Joe Parrish, co-founder and chief creative officer, will step down from his role as CCO to become a sr. advisor and Board member. Parrish will continue to work with Cook and the creative team through the end of the year.

“Passing the baton to Matt feels like a natural next step,” said Parrish, “He has poured his heart into this agency for more than a decade, and his creative vision has touched everything we’ve done. We can’t wait to see where he takes us next.”

Nominees named for the CST Award for Best Young Female Film Technician at the Cannes Film Festival

    Monday, May 11, 2026
Production designers Esther Mysius (l) and Livia Lattanzio, nominees for this year's CST Award for Best Young Female Film Technician at the Cannes Film Festival

In light of the under-representation of women in technical roles within the French film industry, the Higher Technical Committee for Image and Sound (CST) will, for the sixth year running, present the CST Award for Best Young Female Film Technician at the Cannes Film Festival.

The figures from 2026 highlight the need to promote and support young female technicians.

Of the 75 technical roles in French films in the official selection, only 18 are held by women. Of these, 16 are over 40 years old, and only 2 are under 40, representing barely 3% of all the roles analyzed.

The CST congratulates the two nominees for the CST Award for Young Female Technician Award at the 79th Festival de Cannes, who are:

    • Livia Lattanzio – Production designer for the film Les Matins merveilleux by Avril Besson (Special Screening)
    • Esther Mysius – Production designer for the film Histoires de la nuit by Léa Mysius (in Competition)

Promoting young female technicians today helps shape a more inclusive, representative and diverse cinema for tomorrow.

Created on the initiative of Claudine Nougaret and Angelo Cosimano in 2021, the CST Award for Best Young Female Film Technician is supported this year by photographer Sarah Moon.

The jury comprises Michel Boujenah, actor and director, and Sylvia Landra, chief editor.

The winner of this sixth edition will be announced on May 23.

The CST was the first ever association of film and audio-visual technicians in France. It was founded in 1944 to promote technicians’ work and the quality of the end product for spectators.
