Yessian Music expands NY presence with strategic hires Jon Mackey and Alec Setten

    NEW YORK --

Yessian Music continues its global expansion across brand, entertainment, and immersive experience sectors with the addition of two senior leaders to its New York City studios: Alec Setten as director, brand and agency partnerships, and Jon Mackey as director, immersive and post partnerships. Both will work closely with Yessian’s international teams to deepen strategic relationships and drive creative collaboration across advertising, experiential, and emerging media.

“Sound is an integral component when it comes to brands and entertainment,” said Brian Yessian, partner and chief creative officer at Yessian Music. “We’re bringing in leaders who understand both the creative and strategic sides of this business. Jon and Alec each bring serious experience across advertising, immersive experiences, and audio post that directly strengthens our global offering.”

    Alec Setten
Setten joins with a career built at the intersection of music culture, supervision, and brand storytelling. He began in artist management, working with influential acts including Helmet, Ween, and Joe Henry, before moving into A&R at Geffen/DGC Records, where he collaborated with genre-defining artists such as Swervedriver, Boss Hog, Misfits, GZA, and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Over the past decade, Setten has focused on music supervision and production for major global brands including Corona, Colgate, Boston Beer Company, CeraVe, Unilever, and Bud Light. He is known for aligning authentic sound with brand voice and narrative strategy to drive the creative.

“Yessian has built an incredible legacy rooted in craft and trust,” said Setten. “This is a company that doesn’t just produce music–it shapes emotion, culture, and storytelling at a high level. My focus is to position music production as a strategic asset that drives brand identity and cultural relevance. The industry needs more distinctive, ownable sonic identities and not safe, generic ones. Yessian is built to lead that shift.”

    Jon Mackey
Mackey brings deep experience across post-audio, music production, and immersive media. With roots in electronic music and technology-driven storytelling, he founded the Cadence Collective label while in college and went on to lead post-audio production at HOBO Audio for six years, producing sound for national campaigns, films, documentaries, and television.

He later served as head of production and sr. music producer at Q Department, expanding into gaming and immersive formats. His immersive credits include sound production for Emmy Award–recognized VR projects such as Red Rocks VR and the SNL 50th Anniversary VR experience, along with large-scale event content including interstitial films presented during Noche UFC 306 at the Sphere Las Vegas.

“Yessian has a reputation for high-quality creative work and a rare range across music, post, and immersive production,” said Mackey. “Immersive and experience-driven projects are growing fast, and sound is too often brought in too late. There’s a real opportunity to embed audio earlier in the creative process and shape outcomes, not just finish them. My goal is to build deeper partnerships with immersive studios, experiential agencies, and creative teams so sound is treated as a core design element from day one.”

    Scaling creative partnership globally
With these additions, Yessian Music strengthens its New York hub as a strategic gateway for agency, brand, and immersive partnerships while reinforcing collaboration with their global production teams. The move supports the company’s continued push into multi-platform storytelling, experiential environments, and next-generation branded experiences.

Gene Shalit, longtime “Today” show movie critic, dies at 100

Gene Shalit, a movie critic and arts reporter for the "Today" show over four decades who was known for his puffy hair, oversized handlebar mustache and affection for groan-inducing puns, has died. He was 100.

Shalit's family announced the death Friday to NBC News, saying in a statement that he "passed away peacefully today after 100 years of an amazing life."

Shalit joined "Today" as a contributor in 1970 and became arts editor in 1973, later settling in for his segment, "Critic's Corner." When he left the show in 2010, he was one of the last high-profile film critics on a major network.

"What resonated above his unusual appearance was his incredible wit, his remarkable intelligence. But he didn't pound you over the head with it. He amused you. He enlightened and amused whatever subject he was on," Guy Ludwig, Shalit's producer for more than 20 years, wrote in an essay of his time.

It was no coincidence that Chicago critics Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel's local "thumbs-up, thumbs-down" movie-review program, "Sneak Previews," went national on PBS in the late 1970s and that "Today" show's ABC rival, "Good Morning America," hired Joel Siegel to be its movie critic in 1981.

"Shalit was instrumental in changing the balance of critical power in America. When he began his 'Today' tenure, newspapers and magazines were the primary sources for movie reviews. That's where cinematic opinion was sparked and shaped," The Plain Dealer wrote in 2010, calling Shalit "Daniel Boone in a bow tie and Groucho glasses."
