    Zulu Alpha Kilo promotes Ault and Gawrysiak to group creative directors

    TORONTO --

    Zulu Alpha Kilo (Z.A.K.) has promoted creative directors George Ault and Jacob Gawrysiak to group creative directors.

    Together, Ault and Gawrysiak will take on greater leadership roles working across clients. Recent notable work from Ault, who has been with Z.A.K. since 2009, and his partner, Gawrysiak, includes Dove’s #ChangeTheCompliment campaign and “Possible Lives Here” for President’s Choice, as well as work for Make-A-Wish and the Canadian Addiction Treatment Centre.

    “Our work is centered around an ethos that the world needs more creativity,” said Jenny Glover, chief creative officer at Zulu Alpha Kilo. “George and Jacob are two leaders who have consistently pushed us to help us fulfill that ambition. They’ve been instrumental in our success, and we’re excited about putting them in positions to have an even greater impact at the agency as we look toward the future.”

    “The creative product has always been at the core of Z.A.K. We’re thankful for the trust and excited for what’s next,” shared Ault and Gawrysiak in a joint statement. “Our best work is still ahead and we’re lucky to be doing it alongside such a talented group.”

    The promotions come on the heels of a hot streak for Z.A.K. The agency recently spearheaded the launch campaign for Bell’s first refreshed brand platform in 17 years, launched The New York Times’ Family Subscription in a massively popular spot featuring Eli Manning and family, and led Stonefire’s North America relaunch. Recently, Z.A.K.’s global #ChangeTheCompliment campaign for Dove earned System1’s highest possible Star Rating with a score of 5.9, and was named one of their top 10 ads that broke through in 2025.

    Additionally, Z.A.K.’s popular 2024 and 2025 Super Bowl ads (with Tina Fey and Miss Piggy, respectively) for Booking.com led to an expanded remit that includes a 2026 global brand campaign and new B2B responsibilities.

    The elevation of Ault and Gawrysiak come as Z.A.K. enters its 18th year with a spate of rapid growth, including the expansion of offices in both Vancouver and New York.

    EU accuses TikTok of “addictive design” that harms children, seeks changes to protect users

    The European Union on Friday accused TikTok of breaching the bloc's digital rules with "addictive design" features that lead to compulsive use by children, in preliminary charges that strike at the heart of the popular video sharing app's operating model.

    EU regulators said their two-year investigation found that TikTok hasn't done enough to assess how features such as autoplay and infinite scroll could harm the physical and mental health of users, including minors and "vulnerable adults."

    The European Commission said it believes TikTok should change the "basic design" of its service. The commission is the EU's executive arm and enforcer of the 27-nation bloc's Digital Services Act, a sweeping rulebook that requires social media companies to clean up their platforms and protect users, under threat of hefty fines.

    TikTok denied the accusations.

    "The Commission's preliminary findings present a categorically false and entirely meritless depiction of our platform, and we will take whatever steps are necessary to challenge these findings through every means available to us," the company said in a statement.

    TikTok's features including infinite scrolling, autoplay, push notifications, and highly personalized recommender systems "lead to the compulsive use of the app, especially for our kids, and this poses major risks to their mental health and wellbeing," Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier said at a press briefing in Brussels.

    "The measures that TikTok has in place are simply not enough," he said.
