Burnermunde Directs Nike x Palace’s World Cup Spot, A Shakespearean Love Letter To Today’s England

Directing duo Burnermunde via production company Stink bring their social realist sensibility to Nike x Palace’s latest U.K. World Cup campaign, a poetic and fevered portrait of an ever-evolving England.

Starring football legends Wayne Rooney and Jill Scott, the film reframes national identity against the heightened theatricality of Shakespeare. Rooney auditions for the part, delivering a speech from Richard II in a tight, searching close-up, skull in hand, dressed head-to-toe in Nike x Palace. Meanwhile Scott descends onto Earth as the mystic being behind Stonehenge and the inception of football. A surreal and layered collision of then and now.

Across a series of vignettes, from EastEnders-inspired weddings to suited-up uncles, young lads in flag-painted cars and folklore, the film reclaims the St George’s flag from stereotype and tension, placing it back into the hands of the diverse people it represents.

“At its core, we wanted to reimagine what England means,” shared Burnermunde in a joint statement. “Not in a grand, patriotic way. More like: this is what it is. England isn’t one thing. It’s always changing.”

Rooney’s presence grounds that idea. Rather than presenting him as untouchable sporting royalty, Burnermunde leaned into his everyman quality, nervous and familiar. An homage to the classic Nike archetype where an athlete faces doubt, finds rhythm, but ultimately lands the shot.

Produced by Stink UK in collaboration with Stuart Hammond for concept and creative, Nike and Palace’s in-house creative teams, and VFX by creator Finn Dove, the film slips between realism and cosmic absurdity.

The campaign marks Burnermunde’s first commercial project with Stink, following a growing body of original work that has established the directing duo as distinctive new voices in British filmmaking. Their ongoing Burner Wednesday series, released on YouTube, has built a cult following through raw portraits of contemporary British life, while their short film Hufflepuff recently garnered momentum off the back of a feature at the BBC Comedy Festival.

The Best Work You May Never See: A Trailer For Director Rosie Morris’ Docushort On Young Carers In The U.K.

    Thursday, June 11, 2026

This trailer is for the new documentary short Is Mum OK, which shines a light on the hidden realities faced by young carers in the U.K.

In the U.K., a carer is generally anyone who looks after a family member, partner, or friend who needs help due to illness, frailty, disability, mental health issues, or an addiction. Crucially, this refers to carers who provide this support for free.

The short follows a group of young carers in Waltham Forest, East London, who are given access to much-needed respite through a dedicated local initiative, Young Carers Club, a fortnightly respite evening where they can socialize, eat and spend time with others who understand their experiences.

It explores both the beauty and the burden of caring from a young age, while highlighting the need for greater recognition and support for young carers across the U.K.

Commissioned by Guardian Documentaries and produced by Uncommon Creative Studio, Is Mum OK was released during Carers Week 2026 (June 8-14)--with this year’s week themed around building carer-friendly communities

The film will also be screened to members of Parliament, urging them to bring young carers’ rights to the top of the social care agenda

Is Mum OK was directed by Rosie Morris, who had firsthand experience of being a carer for her mother.

There are estimated to be at least one million young carers in the U.K., many of whom remain unidentified and unsupported.

Director Morris said, “This story is deeply personal to me, rooted in my own experience of caring for a loved one. Caring for my mother three years ago was one of the hardest and most meaningful experiences I have ever had. My difficulty in transitioning out of being a carer and... Read More
