    NEW YORK -- (SPW) --
SHOOT Magazine, the leading publication for commercial and entertainment motion picture production, today announced the names of the 33 directors / directing teams who made the final cut to be included in the SHOOT 2015 13th Annual New Directors Showcase.

The debut screening of the Showcase Reel will take place during SHOOT's Annual New Directors Showcase Event on Thursday, May 21st from 6-10pm at the DGA Theatre in New York City.  A special “Meet the Directors” panel and After-Party will follow the Screening.  The SHOOT Directors/Producers Forum takes place from 2:00-5:30pm before the SHOOT New Directors Showcase

    Here’s a look at the afternoon Directors/Producers Forum Sessions…

► Reality Check: The Democratizaton of Directing in 2015
Bonnie Goldfarb, co-founder and executive producer of long-standing, award-winning, production house harvest leads us through a session packed with relevant info for everyone in the production business…
The demysification of filmmaking with the advent of affordable technology has prompted the masses to be directors, editors, musicians, actors, etc.  It’s the old adage a little bit of knowledge is dangerous and everyone these days has a POV.  While it is healthy to provide these tools to our society, how has it impacted the trained professionals?  How do you create content that stands out from all the rest and what specific platforms give voice to our young studied, trained directors?  Bonnie also addresses the importance of being in a Guild (DGA) and preserving unions in 2015 – the wild west of filmmaking has created amazing opportunities for everyone interested in the business but at the same time the clients/studios desire to pay for content has dropped to record lows.  The new paradigm seems to be headed towards a larger percentage of work being produced non-union. How do we preserve our businesses and our guilds and unions so in the future we can support our families?  Content has become so disposable, work is old in a day and most clients seem to value quantity over quality.  This shift in culture divides our industry and it’ll be interesting to see how the next generation of filmmaker can preserve their rights to the work they create without these institutions. Additional topics include agency in-house production and implementing sustainable "more green" practices within the production industry.
    ♦ Speakers to be announced

    ►  4K And Beyond
Ultra HD 4K is here and although 4K TVs have only been on the market for a short time, dramatic sales have shown the hunger for higher resolution content.  Among the distributors of content, streaming video is pushing the market for for UHD/4K forward with multiple Netflix and Amazon shows in 4K.   Sports broadcasting is a "killer app" for UHD4K and broadcasters are also moving towards 4K.  We're at the beginning of a wave of 4K content as well as ways to distribute and enjoy UltraHD, from game consoles and smartphones to TV sets and movie theater projection.  As more companies release solutions to offer choices for a complete end-to-end workflow, 4K content will ramp up.   We are thrilled to bring this session to the Forum where several experts will shed light on the world of 4K.  Just as Sony was a pioneer in High Definition, so too has the company been a leader in 4K spanning such innovations as projectors, digital motion picture cameras, camcorders, production switchers, servers, monitors and overall workflow.  Sony’s legacy in imagery will be on display at the Directors/Producers Forum as attendees will see what the company’s latest generation technology can do as they are treated to a short screening of beautiful 4K footage.  Speakers will demonstrate the capabilities of 4K, discuss workflow issues and shed light on what’s in store regarding 4K and the K's (6K, 8K) beyond.
    >Speakers to be announced

►  In The Directors Chair: J.C. Chandor
Director/writer J.C. Chandor settles into the Director’s Chair at the Forum for an on stage interview with SHOOT editor Bob Goldrich…
Chandor's feature filmography consists of “Margin Call” (for which he earned a Best Original Screenplay Oscar® nomination in 2012), the Robert Redford-starring “All Is Lost” (for which Chandor was an Independent Spirit Award Best Director nominee), and "A Most Violent Year" (cited by the National Board of Review as the Best Film of 2014). Chandor reflects on his filmmaking career as well as his commercial and branded content aspirations, which sparked his recent signing with RESET, the production house founded by managing director Dave Morrison and director David Fincher.

► Blurred Lines:  What Everyone Should Know About the New World Of  Native Advertising
Jeffrey A. Greenbaum, the witty and wise Managing Partner of leading Entertainment & Advertising law firm Frankfurt Kurnit Klein + Selz provides insights, information and anecdotes…
With branded content continuing to be an important part of the marketing mix, advertisers are looking to "native advertising" as the next frontier.  When advertising messages consist of  integrated  editorial and entertainment content, it raises tough legal issues, as well as issues about IP ownership and who is responsible when things go wrong, that brands, agencies, and production companies must face.  This session will highlight some trends in native advertising, give examples of good ideas gone wrong, and provide best practices for producing great work without the disasters.
Here’s a look at the evening agenda:

►  The 2015 New Directors Showcase  The next generation of filmmaking talent has arrived–and we know who they are. SHOOT’s 13th annual New Directors Showcase offers a total of 36 up-and-coming helmers filling 33 slots (30 individual directors, and three duos). Of this mix, 16 directors (12 individuals and two duos) are as of yet unaffiliated with a production company. On the other end of the spectrum, several are with established production houses including Biscuit Filmworks, Epoch Films, Rattling Stick, Skunk and Spy Films. Two solo Showcase directors are accomplished editors who cut for mainstay editorial houses. The recognized Showcase work spans varied disciplines from TV commercials to shorts, music videos, spec spots, excerpts from feature films, cinema ads, branded entertainment and webisode fare. It’s a body of work that like in past Showcase years figures to make an impact on the advertising and entertainment marketplaces. Register For Ticket Here

There was a great deal of very strong work entered in the search that ultimately did not make the final reel as hundreds of entries were narrowed down to approximately to the final Showcase. SHOOT Magazine Publisher, Roberta Griefer, noted that "letting directors know that they did not make the final Showcase is the one negative to the annual New Directors Search but they are invited to keep SHOOT editors posted on their upcoming work and SHOOT looks forward to bringing many of them and their upcoming projects to SHOOT readers' attention in the future.
