    Opening Night Reception to be held at Los Angeles City College VAMA Gallery on Thursday, October 13th, 2022

    LOS ANGELES -- (SPW) --

    The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) announced the opening of "Inventing the Supernatural: Bringing Horror from Script to Screen," a multi-media exhibition featuring the work of ADG 800 members, at the newly renovated VAMA Gallery (formerly the Da Vinci Gallery) on the Los Angeles City College (LACC) campus. The opening night reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 – 8:00 PM PT. ADG National Executive Director Chuck Parker will join the participating ADG artists, LACC faculty and other ADG members to kick off the five-week exhibit, which will run through November 10th,, 2022.

    "We are excited to be engaging with LACC, one of the most diverse campuses in the country in the heart of Los Angeles, to talk to emerging artists about the work of our members," said Nelson Coates, President of the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800. "Exhibits like this one provide us a unique opportunity to engage with students and let them know what is possible, so they can envision a career and pursue the necessary training and experience to one day work in one of the numerous design positions in the Entertainment Industry.” 

    Themed to match the Halloween season, the exhibit focuses on the art department process of taking a production from concept to reality. "Inventing the Supernatural: Bringing Horror from Script to Screen" exhibit explores how an art department team takes an idea, in this case a supernatural idea that is so shocking, strange, and hard to imagine, and manifests it into an exciting and memorable visual reality. 

    The ADG will be sponsoring two additional special events during the exhibit:

    The artists spotlighted in the exhibit include Gina Alessi (American Horror Story), Jim Bandush (Constantine), Dawn Brown (technical drawings), Donna Cline (Hocus Pocus 2), Nelson Coates (Hocus Pocus 2), Darren Darlinger (Blade), Guy Gonzalez (Lucifer), Marc Groener (Constantine), Patrick Janike (Constantine, Blade), Marty Kline (Hocus Pocus 2, Harry Potter), Nikita Knatz (Hellboy), Art Lee (Hellboy), David Lowery (Dracula), Masako Masuda (Salem), Michelle Moen (Salem), Sharon M. Samuels (Lovecraft), Carly Sertic (Grimm), Bridget Shaw (Hocus Pocus 2), Dan Sweetman (Harry Potter), Joel Venti (Hocus Pocus 2), Bo Welch (Edward Scissorhands), Tim Wilcox (Lucifer), and Mark Worthington (American Horror Story).
     
    The VAMA Gallery, located at Los Angeles City College, 855 N. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90029, is open Monday – Thursday, 12:00 – 4:00 PM; Friday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
