The Beauty, a diploma film produced at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg's Animationsinstitut, was awarded the Jury's Choice at the first virtual SIGGRAPH.

Yesterday the official selection of the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival for the Electronic Theater and the three winners of the categories "Best in Show", "Jury's Choice" and "Best Student Project" were announced. From eight student and 20 professional studio productions, including world premieres of shorts by Pixar Animation Studios, Unity Technologies and Onesal Studio, The Beauty (Director: Pascal Schelbli, VFX Supervisor: Marc Angele, Animation: Noel Winzen, Producer: Tina Vest, Aleksandra Todorovic) was able to compete successfully in the category "Jury's Choice".

The Beauty deals with the plastic pollution of the world's oceans and thus hits the spirit of the times. The film takes the audience on a poetic journey through a fascinating underwater world, where plastic and nature become one. For one breath, worries and feelings of guilt seem to dissolve between eerily beautiful coral reefs and the mysterious depths of the ocean.

Director Pascal Schelbli on the idea for The Beauty, "Since I grew up in the middle of mountains, nature is very close to my heart. That's why I always turn up my nose at every package or cigarette butt I have to pick up outside in the mountains or in the forest. Unfortunately, the pollution in the oceans is much more serious. To set a small sign, I had the idea to make this film."

In January, The Beauty already won the VES Award in the category "Outstanding Visual Effects in a Student Project". After the Oscar, the VES Awards are considered the most important award for outstanding projects in the field of visual effects and are presented once a year by the Visual Effects Society.

Animationsinstitut of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg trains outstanding talents at the highest level in the fields of animation, visual effects, technical directing, animation/effects producing and interactive media.
